Note: Hi everyone! I'm not dead, contrary to what some of you were probably starting to think. I've just been kind of busy these past few weeks. And yes, I'm still updating Defining Insanity. I have about six hundred words written for its next chapter, I just don't know when it's going to be done.
Anyway, this is something that I originally wrote for the Hetalia Kink Meme on livejournal. The prompt was kind of long, but basically the OP wanted a DenNor fic set in a human AU where Norway is an extremely antisocial teenage prodigy with a dysfunctional family (Berwald is his and Emil's dad, Tino is their stepdad, and Ivan is their uncle, fyi.), and Denmark is his new teacher. They eventually fall for each other and, well... I'm not going to spoil the end for you guys.
(Also, I wrote this in the summary, but the rating may change to an M later on. One of the bonuses was smut, but I'm not sure if I'll include any. There may be a poll regarding this later on.)
Smash.
This is the sound that is made as porcelain collides with plaster.
From their hiding place under the stairs, Lukas hears this, combined with the angry shouting of his stepfather and the equally enraged voice of his uncle.
"Why are Tino and Uncle Ivan fighting again?" Emil asks, his voice curious and slightly afraid. Whether it's of the fact that they're fighting or the answer to his question, Lukas isn't sure.
"Shhh," he snaps, not wanting them to be heard by either of the men. After his little brother has quieted down, he answers the question with a simple, "you know how they get when they're drunk." The boy didn't need to know the actual reasoning behind the argument and all of the ones that had preceded it.
"I wish dad were here."
"Me too."
"Is he coming back soon?"
"I don't know."
For a long moment, it's silent. Lukas almost thinks that the fighting is over for the night. Just when he's about to venture out to check, there's a shout of, "Maybe if you weren't such a goddamned slut, he wouldn't have left you!" Ivan is the one saying it. Once again, something is thrown, although this time, it appears to hit its target. The man yelps in pain as the glass bottle connects with his cheek.
Lukas feels Emil tap on his shoulder, and turns around.
"Did dad leave because Tino cheated on him?" His voice is barely audible
"Yes."
They sit together quietly, neither saying anything for several minutes. Eventually, Emil whispers another inquiry.
"Lukas?"
"Hmm?"
"Is dad coming back at all?"
He pauses, not entirely sure how to respond. Finally, Lukas gives the only answer he can.
"I don't know."
Another note: This is just a little introduction to what the family dynamic is like. The upcoming chapters will be a lot longer. Hope you're enjoying the story so far, and thanks for reading.
