Breaking Up is Dangerous to Do
AN: Very AU. Pretend Cedric never died.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER. If I did I'd be hanging out with Dan, Emma, Rupert, and Tom, not writing fanfiction.
Hermione Granger stormed through the portrait hole of the Gryffindor common room and sunk into one of the chairs by the fire place. Ginny Weasley raised her eyes at her best friend.
"Cedric is a no-good, slimy git!" Hermione exploded by way of explanation.
"I thought you two were getting along great," Ginny said, "Seemed like it when you were snogging by the lake last week."
"We were not snogging!" Hermione turned red.
"Ok, then…what did the git do to make you so angry?"
"He said he wants to break up."
Ginny abruptly stood up and walked over to the portrait hole. She turned back to Hermione and asked "Are you coming?"
"Where are we going?" Hermione asked.
"To kill Diggory of course," Ginny stated.
Hermione laughed and stood up to follow the red-headed girl.
Cedric was sitting at the Hufflepuff table alone when Ginny charged into the Great Hall, wand ready, with Hermione following quietly behind.
"Diggory!" Ginny screeched, aiming her wand between Cedric's eyes.
Cedric tried to stand up so fast that he nearly fell to the floor. "G-Ginny," he stuttered, holding his hands up in surrender. "You don't understand…"
"Oh I understand perfectly, you son of a troll!"
Cedric desperately looked to Hermione, begging her to let him explain. Hermione caved to his miserable expression and put a hand on Ginny's shoulder.
"Let him talk," she said softly.
Ginny lowered her want cautiously, glaring daggers at Cedric. If looks could kill…
"Listen," Cedric begged, "I didn't want to break up with you, Hermione. I-."
"You're just an arse who doesn't know a good thing when he's got it."
Cedric narrowed his eyes at Ginny and Ginny retaliated by shifting the position of her wand to aim right between Cedric's legs. Cedric gulped and tried to ignore it.
"Anyway…I really didn't want to break up with you…my dad…he doesn't think we should be together."
"Why?" Hermione asked.
"Because you're a….a…."
"A what," Ginny asked viciously.
"A Muggle born," Cedric said, looking at the floor.
"So what if she's a Muggle born!" Ginny exploded, "She's better at magic than you could ever hope to be! How dare you even think-!"
"HEY! I didn't say that she was a bad witch, and I didn't say I had anything against her being Muggle born! It's my dad!" Cedric took a few deep breaths and turned to Hermione."I'm sorry, 'Mione."
"Don't call her that," Ginny spat, "Only people who are close to her can call her that."
Hermione tried to speak but Ginny kept yelling.
"You're foul, Diggory! I thought you were a good guy, and I thought you were good for Hermione, but I guess I was wrong. All you've done is upset her."
"Ginny, I-." Hermione said quietly, but this time it was Cedric who cut her off.
"It's not my fault! It's my dad! I didn't want to break up with her, I LOVE HER!"
"You-." Hermione started.
"Then maybe you shouldn't have broken up with her!" Ginny yelled.
Hermione waved her wand, creating a loud crack noise, silencing the fighting students.
"You love me?" Hermione asked Cedric quietly.
Cedric nodded silently, turning slightly red. Hermione smiled and ran up to Cedric. She hugged him tightly and kissed him on the lips. Cedric kissed her back then pulled away. "Forgive me?"
"You're forgiven. I love you too, you stupid git," Hermione laughed, kissing him again.
Ginny rolled her eyes. "Just watch yourself, Cedric. If you ever hurt her again, you'll be in the ground before you can convince her to forgive you."
Cedric smiled. "I'll be careful."
Ginny rolled her eyes again and left the Great Hall as Cedric and Hermione went back to kissing.
