To consent or comply passively or without protest.
Everything was falling apart.
Those eyes of his could see everything. Everything that had begun to crumble about him. The changes in their bodies, voices and feelings. Chisaki always claimed that she wanted everything to stay the same. She didn't want anything to change, yet they were. She couldn't sense the tides of time rolling away.
But Kaname could.
He was the first of the group to recognize these changes. He understood for a fact that he had fallen for his best friend, Chisaki. He understood for a fact that she had unknowingly fallen for Hikari who was still oblivious of his feelings to Manaka. Every one of them. Oblivious.
It grated on his nerves, but he bottled his frustrations. As long as he could be with her, then he would play as the shoulder to cry on. With each tear she shed over her unrequited love, he would wipe it away as though she were a fragile doll. All Kaname ever wanted to do was treasure her and keep her safe from the cruelties of the world that circulated about them. He would comply passively with what the others wanted without a word of protest. After all, the last thing he wished for was a disturbance within their little underwater world. He was fine with how things were.
He'd told himself that if Hikari and Chisaki were to marry, he'd give them his blessing with that masked smile of his. He would never let them see the wounds upon his heart that that girl so lovingly inflicted upon him.
Then things began falling apart.
Hikari had finally confessed thanks to his probing. Manaka had run out the door like a confused, wide-eyed goldfish. Hikari of course, chased her. Chisaki stood, gorgeous anger flashing across her features as she condemned him with her sweetly spiteful words.
"That was horrible, Kaname! That's going too far!"
She shimmered from view soon after. All he could do was stand, facing away from those accusing eyes of tears in silence as she chased after the other. Of course she would leave. Why would she wish to stay with him when she loved another? He was just another friend. Another shoulder to cry on. Another person hopelessly in love with someone he can never have. Nothing more.
He couldn't hold himself back anymore. Grinning and bearing everything was no longer possible. The bottle of frustrations had been uncapped. The sting from his metaphorical wounds seared through his skin. Fingers curled into a shaky fist as his face rested against the cruel cold surface of his desk. Intense, cerulean eyes narrowed, boring holes through the wood as he muttered to himself.
"I'm doing the best that I can, too..."
Everything was falling apart now.
