His Partner

By: Nellbell22

Some dreamers say that when you meet the person you were meant to be with, you instantly know that the person is "the one". Dan Humphrey was one of these people.

He knew as soon as he met Serena van der Woodsen, that she was the love of his life and from then on, he never looked at another girl. But now, he doesn't believe it at all because the woman in his arms is not Serena but someone he never expected to even like much less be in love with.

He met Blair Waldorf in the fifth grade when they had been placed in the same class. Mrs. Vicks was her name and she was one of the most easy-going teachers known in the primary school. These classes were mixed when they were younger but Dan never fit in either way. He was always the man out.

The assignment that day was to pair up with a partner and do an experiment with some goo of some sort. Dan always had trouble with these assignments because no one ever wanted to be partners with the poor boy from Brooklyn. That day though, Blair Waldorf came in late and was not there for the partnering and was stuck next to a "Dan". Dan could remember that she had the school uniform on with bright orange tights to match her headband. He also remembered he thought it was strange but he would never have said anything to her back then.

"Hi, I'm Dan Humphrey." He stuck his hand out and Blair slapped it away. He fell back in his chair, frightened. Her eyes were in slits and her newly glossed lips were pressed in a hard line.

"I'm not here to associate with you…Humphrey. I am just here to do the work and make my boyfriend a little jealous because I guess you aren't that bad looking for living in Brooklyn, that is. That is him over there; don't look! His name is Nathaniel Archibald. We are going to get married some day."

Dan's eyes must have been as wide as saucers after this but he just continued with his lab and left Blair to her musings. Yet, she turned out to be a lot of help. She knew her way around the fifth grade science kit.

After the assignment and after the end of the day came, Dan walked out of the classroom and saw Blair getting her first kiss, as she stated later in their life. Then as they walked by on the way to their limo, Blair pressed a note into Dan's hand and whispered, "Wait until you are far away to read it."

So, Dan walked to the front of the building to wait for his Dad and then decided that it was far enough away for him to read the note.

You worked your magic. Thanks Lonely Boy.

~Blair Waldorf

He removed Blair from his arms and walked to the cabinet in his office. He opened the top right drawer, and rummaging around for a while, and grabbed his elementary school portfolio that was right next to Blair's. He skimmed through and with a smile, picked out the note that looked almost as fresh as the day he got it.
