Hermione slips into Harry's bed, as has become their routine. Her freezing toes press up against Harry's leg, and he shivers.
"Sorry," she says. Her breath materializes in front of her.
"S'okay," he answers.
"Any better tonight?" she asks.
"Not really. I feel…restless. I just need this to be over."
"Is there any way I can help?" Her hand finds its way into his, and their fingers twine.
"Hermione, I swear," he says with a smile. "You're already doing more than I could ever have asked for."
"Happy Christmas, Harry."
"Happy Christmas, Hermione." He presses his lips against hers.
