Tiembla conmigo
con pausas paralizantes
Quizá no pueda respirar más
sin respirarte a ti.
Judith Pordon, Como Besaras?
--
It starts with her voice. It starts with her words.
When it comes down to it, she offers up her silence, palms open and empty. Awkward, awkward but she takes a step forward anyway, and Reid frowns a little, uncertain a little, and curious too. She doesn't reach for him, just lets her hands hover in that space above his closed fists. And then she moves.
His gaze doesn't break, but the frown gives way to a tentative smile and a touch of pink in his face, and his torso twists as she steps around him.
She smiles.
Emily—?
And then she turns her shoulder.
--
In California the sun reaches out with gluttonous arms and beats their weary heads into submission. Emily gives a parched sigh; he throws her a lukewarm bottle of water, and there it is, that smile. That gratitude.
She tilts her head back as she takes a draught. Reid thinks of her throat, thinks of the water, and for a moment there he stops breathing.
--
He presses his lips to her shoulder and she leans into the caress. He presses his lips to her throat and she whispers incoherently. He can feel her pulse; he can feel her breath. His fingers circle her wrist, and she gasps.
Emily—
She arches further into his touch and his fingers come to her ribs, and yes, she says, si, and now there is no space between them just as there never was between their words, and he braces his hands against her skin and feels her shiver.
Say it, he whispers into her hair, her neck, say it.
--
It starts with her voice. ¿Cuándo fue le última vez que viste tu hermano? It starts with her words. ¿Usted sabe que lo esta es siquiendo? He doesn't know what it means, but it sounds earnest. Emily sounds earnest. She is reaching out to Ruben Garcia in the same way that she reaches out to everyone around her. All that sympathy. All that empathy.
She is leaning across the table. Reid is leaning into the glass.
--
It starts with her voice.
She turns in beneath his hands, turns to look at him gentle, gentle, and he cannot wait now, cannot be patient as she holds his face and leans in, with her fingers against his jaw and his fingers upon her hips.
¿Como besaras? How will you kiss? Tiembla conmigo, and he answers the invitation without knowing what she means.
end.
