Violet POV:

I did not want to go to this stupid new house just because my stupid parents were having stupid problems. My dad messed things up again, like he usually does. They always drag me into their shit. Whatever, I guess.

We stepped inside the new place. It was a dump. The real-estate agent was going on and on about stuff that no one cared about. I already knew that my parents were gonna move our family, or what was left of it, into this abandoned dumpster. I figured I might as well look around this place since I was going to be living here for the next, well rest of my life. Who knew if my parents would even let me leave for college.

The house itself was actually kinda cool. From the outside it looked like a piece of shit. Inside it was actually kinda beautiful. It was dark, but I liked it. I like things that aren't normal. It was a Victorian-styled house with stained-glass windows and ancient light fixtures. It had a slightly creepy feel to it, which, oddly enough, put me at ease.

The lady mentioned something about the basement being haunted. Obviously I was gonna have to check that out. I turned the old rusty knob that led down the stairs to the basement…

Tate POV:

My life sucked. It was the same thing every single day. I just wanted a change. Lucky for me change finally walked into my life, literally. And that change had a name. Violet.

I knew that I would fall head-over-heels for her as soon as I set my eyes on her. She was perfect. She wasn't the stereotypical pretty, popular girl. She was beautiful in her own way. She was beautiful to me in every way. She was different and I liked that. I wondered if she knew she was beautiful. She carried herself with such confidence. I had to know her. I had to have her.

She was in the basement and I couldn't stop myself from talking to her.

"Hey", I said.

"Uhhh hey?", she said, looking at me confused and slightly wavering her eyes from me to the stairs that led to her parents.

"Don't be afraid. I'm not that scary. Well, maybe a little."

She looked at me as if she was accepting a challenge.

"I'm not scared of anything," she said.

I fell in love with her all over again…. Even though I've only known her for all of 2 minutes.

I smiled at her. I rarely smiled at anyone or anything. Nothing made me happy anymore. Except her.

"I'm Tate."

"Violet", she said.

Violet. She was my flower. So delicate and fragile. I was going to protect her from anything that could hurt her. Especially, from everything in this house.
