Cognitive Dissonance (Pt. 1)
Her dead body was hers no more. Hazeleye awoke. She felt different when she did. She felt as if her body was empty of something. She felt as if she had dropped so much weight, literal and figurative. She had dropped all of the bad things from her life. However, she did hold on to her painful past and burning memories.
She didn't feel like she had a body, but she could still move as if she did. At about this moment she realized that she had died.
Is this the glorious afterlife? Hazeleye asked herself. I never thought myself worthy of something like this. I've betrayed, murdered, and possibly started a genocide. How am I even allowed in here?
Because you did terrible things. And yet, you did great things, Hazeleye. A voice said.
Who are you?
I am Rainfall, an elf like you. We have much in common, or so I am told.
I am Hazeleye, the betrayer and the destroyer of dragons. How are you at all like me?
AuNor.
What does he have to do with anything?
I credit myself with saving his line.
Hah. That's what I did.
See? We already have something in common.
It was after he said this that she became very curious. Auron, or AuRon by now, didn't seem to mention his siblings. She assumed they were dead. The elf was probably lying, but he seemed interesting.
Auron. Champion of the clutch. Hazeleye told him.
Aye! That's a name I remember.
You met him?
His sister.
He had a sister?
Yes. He never told you?
I met him for a few moments before I saved his life. After that, our paths never crossed again. Hazeleye lied.
Hazeleye. Reach towards your eye.
She did. It was just her eye. Then, Rainfall motioned to go towards her eye patch. Funny how he actually said eye, not eye patch.
Hazeleye found her eye to be a real eye.
The afterlife is something that fixes all of your impurities. So, Hazeleye, you've learned the first rule of life. Expect anything and you'll never be surprised.
I feel so empowered. Hazeleye grumbled.
The life after life is so boring. It's so lonely. Hazeleye, perhaps you can entertain an old, tired elf. Rainfall suggested.
What do you want? My lifesong? Hazeleye asked.
If it's interesting. Rainfall said.
It's not something I'm proud of. Hazeleye said.
Then it's interesting. Tell me a story, Hazeleye. Rainfall ordered.
