Grant Ward had never been a happy person. Even as a kid, he had an older brother who tormented him and his younger brother to no end. As a teen, he'd focused mostly on school and finding a job as a soldier somewhere. It wasn't until he was 19 that he found S.H.I.E.L.D. And enlisted to become a field agent. He'd trained hard, never really having any time for friends or hobbies. He'd never even had a girlfriend. Sure, there were the girls he met at bars and clubs, but those were one night stands. Girls who wanted him for nothing but his body and vice versa. Girls who snuck out in the early morning before even he was awake, never to be seen again. But then he joined Agent Coulson's team. Not two days into his admittance into the team of agents, he was sent on a mission involving a girl, a 'hacktivist' as she liked to call herself, who was getting too close to figuring out some information S.H.I.E.L.D. was trying to keep under the radar. Or, as said information preferred, Mike. Ward would like to say that the first time he laid eyes on Skye, he fell in love with her. But, at the time, he was just an agent doing his job arresting someone who had gotten too close. No, it wasn't until he was assigned as her SO that he started noticing the feelings he had towards her. Slowly, those feelings festered and intensified the more he got to know her. Realizing that he had feeling for her was an endeavor, to say the least. Ward sat alone in his bunk for two hours one day, trying to figure out why his face felt hot and his stomach felt weird around the hacker. The realization that he loved her hit him like a train- which he knew about first hand. He knew he shouldn't, loving Skye was against every S.H.E. . rule book there was, but for the first time since he'd decided he wanted to be a soldier, he didn't care about the rules. He didn't care that he could lose all he'd ever worked for; the thought didn't even faze him. Now, lying in bed as the sun rose and his now wife stirred, her hair spread out on the pillow like a chocolate colored halo around her head, he smiled. No, Agent Grant Ward had never been one for happiness, but in that moment, with Skye laying next to him, he was the happiest man there's ever been.
