Natsu's life may have been chaotic, but his mindset was simple... Until it wasn't
He had always been drawn to chaos, being raised by a dragon probably had something to do with it.
He joined the rowdiest guild in Fiore, had the craziest friends that he constantly fought with, and took on insane missions just because he could.
Despite all that, his mind set was pretty simple: get stronger, prove that strength, protect his family, then rub it in their face, and find Igneel. Very straight forward.
Until she showed up with her glitter, bubble baths, and too-tight clothing. She was a ray of blinding light that slowly erased that simple way of life.
She was strong, but didn't seem to know it.
She never fought just to fight or prove something.
She wanted to protect everyone, not just the guild or Magnolia or Fiore, but the whole multiverse.
When she did save someone she was humble about it, even if it nearly cost her her own life.
She was full of contradictions too.
Saying one thing but meaning another, and kicking him when he misunderstood.
Leaving her window unlocked, but kicking him when she found him in her bed.
Wearing the skimpiest clothing possible, but kicking him when he commented on how that was the reason she was always cold.
Not really doing any training or exercising, but kicking him when he pointed out her weight.
See the trend!
Although she was vain, slightly arrogant, and very proud, at the same time she was kind, gentle, down-to-earthland, and forgiving.
A perfect ray of sunshine, that could either make a whole lot of crops grow or burn them all to a crisp.
Beautiful and scary.
Genuine and deceitful.
Devoted and distant.
It got to the point that he couldn't think straight anymore because all of his thoughts were of her smile and her frown.
Before too long her weirdness rubbed off on him and he was not the same person anymore.
She managed to change his simple mindset so that the 'before Luce' and the 'after Luce' sides of him were only the same thing on a surface level, but not much beyond that.
Why him? Why did it have to happen to him?
He even didn't feel the same urge he felt before to go out and look for his father, because his heart hurt whenever he wasn't with her.
He couldn't comprehend this shift, or anything about her really, so he decided to stick as close to her as possible until he did.
That was about 9 years ago.

Now he's siting in a rocking chair at 3am, trying to get his 4 month old daughter to stop crying and go back to sleep, while Lucy, that beautifully complicated, lovely blonde woman who gives him life meaning that he calls his wife, peacefully sleeps in their room down the hall.

And he still hasn't found his answer.

A/N: What do you guys think? Isn't Natsu the most adorable thing ever?! Nashi is cute too, even though she's barely in this one!
I wrote this on a whim at 1:00 in the morning. Could be considered a companion piece to my other one-shot Bundle Of Joy, but at the same it could stand alone.
Thanks for reading! Please review!
