Just For a Moment

Author's Note: This is just something that would come to my mind whenever I'd listen to Anywhere, from Evanescence. It's just a "What if" thing. I'm not trying to fill any gap in the story. I don't think it happens at any point in the trilogy.
This is one of my first attempts at writing a story, so I decided to share it. It's my first finished and translated story, I really appreciate any feedback. I hope you enjoy it.

She looked at the hand he held out to her, to his eyes, intense and confident, unshakeable. The excitement that filled those eyes was contagious. She believed in him.
For a moment, she let herself believe in him and felt the same excitement. Joy and hope washed over her heart like a wave, took over her in such a way, she believed all of that was perfectly possible. Even simple! She found herself smiling and fighting against the tears, almost feverish with the intensity of those feelings.
The urge to say "Yes! Yes, I'll go with you!" was so overwhelming she couldn't speak. The hand that now caressed her face, warm and protective, made her feel safer than she had ever felt. She hugged him and buried her face in his neck, as if only that could stop that feeling from fading away. It was too good. She wanted to keep it forever in her heart, as her most precious possession, something she could remember and no one could ever steal from her... because, deep down, she knew it wasn't possible.
That thought wandered in, uninvited, threatening to mercilessly rip off all the hope and happiness from her chest. It was only a dream, they could never do it. She could never run away... She closed her eyes and held him closer to her, desperately trying to keep those thoughts away. He embraced her tightly, like he didn't intend to ever let go.

She didn't want him to let go - she was finally safe. So, just for a moment, she did what her heart craved so intensely it hurt. She gave in to the desire of believing in him, of being free and happy. She lifted her eyes to him. So beautiful, the perfect face, gold eyes sculpted in ice.
But not now. Never when he looked at her.
She brought her lips to his and kissed him. And, just for a moment, the world didn't exist, tomorrow would never come and she was loved and safe.
Just for a moment, he was hers, and she was his, and nothing would change that.
