A/N: For the prompt "Stargazing" given by deadlynight27on LiveJournal.

Dean lay silently on the hood of his baby, looking into the velvety blue sky, sprinkled with glittering stars. It didn't take long for the haze of the night to overcome him, and wrap him in darkness. It would be easy to think that the silence was just because Sam wasn't with him, but that would be a lie. No, the silence was so much more than that…so much worse. The silence was caused by the fact that the bus station was long finished running for the night. Every one had left: the ugly woman who sold tickets in the office, the janitors, and the family members left behind. Dean was one of them now, but he couldn't bring himself to leave.

It wasn't like he'd never see his brother again; Sam had promised to call as soon as he arrived in California. Surely he'd allow Dean to visit sometime. But it might be hard to get away from Dad to do so. Shit! Dean cursed at himself, remembering that he'd forgotten about their father. They hadn't told him about Sam leaving, and soon, he'd stumble back in from the bar, looking for them. And yet, Dean still couldn't remove himself from the hood of his car.

The sky was beautiful. Clear, just like the ones Sam used to love to look at. It would be just the two of them, sneaking out of some trashy motel room into the calm of the night. It was wrong, and therefore exhilarating, until they stretched out in the grass of whatever field or lawn they could find. Wrapping each other in warmth, they nuzzled, never taking their eyes off of the stars. And tonight, Dean watched them without his Sammy, wondering if he was doing the same.
