Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. If I did I would be J.K. Rowling.
James leaned on the door frame watching his wife cook with his three month old son on her hip. "Hey love." She looked up and smiled. "James! When did you get home?" "Just now. What exactly are you cooking, and why does our house look like Halloween threw up on it?" "We're having a party! Since Harry's only a baby and he can't trick or treat yet I decided that we would have a party for his first Halloween."
"Of course." She threw him a look. Harry chose that moment to babble, not understanding why he was no longer the center of attention. "There's my little man! How about we get your costume on huh?" Harry smiled in his father's embrace. When they reached Harry's bedroom James visibly winced at the costume laying on the change table. "Oh Merlin she's going to try and make you a pumpkin. There is no way that my son is going to be a cute little pumpkin for Halloween. Sirius would never let me hear the end of it." "Pafoo" Harry gurgled. "That's right Harry, Padfoot. Wait what?! LILY GET UP HERE HARRY SAID HIS FIRST WORD!"
A moment later his wife appeared in the doorway. "What was it?" "Let's just say you're never gonna hear the end of it from Sirius." "Pafoo!" Harry responded. "Oh no." Lily groaned "Harry why couldn't your first word have been mama? You lost me ten galleons, yes you did." She cooed. "Bring him down once you've got him changed." "Yes ma'am." He saluted. She rolled her eyes at him.
Once Harry was all dressed up with some magic to make his face look like a zombie and James was in his Count Dracula costume, they made it downstairs. They found Lily waiting for them dressed as Dracula's bride. She glared at James making him gulp. "Where is his pumpkin costume?" "This is his pumpkin costume Lilykins!" She rolled her eyes. "I guess he does look cute in it."
Just then the door bell rang, announcing that some guests had arrived. "Moony!" James exclaimed. "Hey Prongs, Lily, Harry." He greeted. Sirius and Marlene came next and in Sirius-fashion he just walked right in the door. "Oi Padfoot we have a doorbell for a reason." "Pafoo!" Harry exclaimed. Sirius's eyes bulged. "YES! Hello there Prongslet, I see you've inherited your father's ability to irritate your mother. I think you owe me ten galleons Lily-flower." She handed him the money begrudgingly.
"That's the second best thing that's happened to me today." Sirius commented. James raised an eyebrow. "What was the first?" "Well I got engaged today." Lily was at Marlene in a second. "Congratulations! Now we can go on married couples dates!" Meanwhile Remus and James had Sirius in a group hug. "Congrats man, I never thought I'd see the day."
"Hang on a sec, where's Pete?" James questioned. "His mother's ill again so he had to decline. I don't think that woman has ever not been sick."
A quiet came over the group. It was Lil who finally broke it. "Alright, it's picture time!"
So they all gathered together in their costumes, Lily and James in the middle with Harry in Lily's arms, Remus beside Lily and Marlene and Sirius beside James.
A tear dropped onto the picture. It came from the eyes of a boy with messy black hair and his mother's eyes.
