Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean.
Maya Angelou
"…Never play with fire."
Her stony amber eyes turn up into a piercing glower, one that melts hearts yet sets fear.
"I will never, ever let you out of my sight again."
"You are mine forever."
He dips her close to the ground. Malachite eyes sparkle down at her like stars. Fire dances and crackles below the incandescent moonlight, swaying lightly in the breeze while they whisper sweet nothings into the other's ears. As he pulls her back up for a kiss, he reaches into his pocket and slowly slides a knife from its resting place.
"Haven't you heard? Never play with fire, sweetheart."
Only Bliss remembers the night a fifteen-year-old girl set fire to her boyfriend.
"Get away from me."
"But I-"
"Just get away!" A whirlwind of orange and yellow flashes before his eyes, ignites his body. And then he sees her, clear as day, as she steps through the wall of flames. Fiery lips press against his ear, hotter than coal, and whisper, "I warned you."
"Don't leave us."
Whimpers shrill throughout the room. Tears splash into her hair from the aqueous eyes of a small child.
"Hush, hush. Don't cry, darling. Sit by the fire and wait for my return."
Hours later, reports of arson have spread all through town.
She twirls her lithe figure in multiple ecliptics, watching as the flames spin by over, and over, and over…
The twirling ends with a sigh of deranged content. Countless burns and scars tell the number of lives lost before her eyes. Some of them were the result of her savage ways. Never again…
'Never again…' Just once more.
Sparks fly from the friction of the two sticks. Thick gusts of smoke form clouds above her head. Voices come closer, closer, closer…
The fire bursts up. Green eyes flash before mine. In a matter of seconds, the fire is full. Her last game is over. Faint statements and shouts reach her ears. Flames ignite her body. Amber eyes join the green ones.
"Never play with fire."
Wow, okay. This is about the girl from District 8 in the 74th Hunger Games. She was the one killed by the Careers when she started a fire. Basically, she committed suicide; she just needed a little help. She was fueled by anger and pain. Bitterness and rage tagged along with her after her family died. She is fire. Anyway, I find myself bored and with a writer's block, so I just sort of formed this in my mind. It's like all my other one-shots; it came from nowhere. c: Thank you, darling readers, for completing your journey thru my little one-shot.
