Lyle followed Parker as she stalked out of their most recent dead end on their quest for Jarod. The person at the desk had said that he had left a whole week ago. The black centre car pulled up to the curb and Lyle headed for it but suddenly Parker stopped by a rag-covered beggar that Lyle had not noticed before.

'Not normally the one to give donations parker,' sneered Lyle but Parker didn't reach for her money. Instead she pulled a gun on the beggar and cocked it. For the first time the rag pile moved to reveal a blindfolded face. Jarod's face. Despite himself, Lyle was impressed. He walked past lots of beggars everyday; he would never have spotted Jarod sitting there. 'Time to go home you bastard,' said Parker.

They handcuffed him and got him into the car with minimal resistance. In a good mood for the first time since he had escaped, Parker struck up a conversation. 'Why the blindfold Jarod?'

'Because people don't like my eyes now.'

'What do you mean; now?' asked Parker. Jarod just shook his head. Slightly annoyed, Parker ripped the blindfold off. He kept his eyes closed for a moment but when they opened Parker had to keep herself from physically recoiling. Both of Jarod's eyes were milk white orbs. He was blind.

Back at the centre after a week of getting nowhere, Sydney was given the job of trying to teach him brail but it was no use. Jarod was sullen and uncooperative. He would be unable to do the simulations that the centre found so precious without his eyes. He wouldn't say what had caused the blindness but after extensive testing, the doctor proclaimed it permanent.

Jarod seemed to hate his new eyes and would rip strips off his clothing to create blindfolds. Sydney worried about him but he was only allowed limited access to his old protégé. After removing the first four makeshift eye coverings, Lyle let him be.

Over time, Jarod became more and more withdrawn and eventually even Sydney stopped trying with the brail. Then one day the sweeper that bought him his breakfast tray found his cell empty. There was a brief search of the Centre but he was nowhere to be found. Raines was livid- he didn't like it when things didn't go his way. Broots was immediately set on the case but he could give no explanation as to how a blind man had managed to bypass the extensive security and escape.

For a few days nothing else was said on the front of the missing pretender. Finally, impatient of waiting Parker and Lyle inquired as to whether they would be required to pick up the chase again. They were given a negative. Jarod was no longer important to the centre now he was blind.

A week later Sydney was drinking at a bar, trying to wash away the worry for his protégé. Suddenly Jarod appeared, polishing a glass as the bartender. His deep chocolate eyes were clear. 'Your eyes! Jarod, how did you do it?'

'There's so many things I've learnt about since I've been out Sydney. Such as, contact lenses.' He replied coyly. Sydney smiled and shook his head.

'How did you fool the doctor?'

'It seems to seriously affect a doctor's judgment when you distract them with the promise of a huge payoff' Sydney laughed with happiness at how Jarod had fooled the Centre yet again. He paused when he suddenly realised what this meant.

'Jarod, you're free. They think you're worthless now and have ordered us off your case!'

Jarod gave one of his huge 'gotcha' grins. 'That was the plan Sydney, that was the plan.'
