A/N: My first TFioS fic. Just for the record, this book left me in an emotional ball of tears. I'm probably not the only one.

He knew that he only had a little while left to live, to love, to feel the way he did about Hazel Grace.

He wasn't sure if he could take it.

He'd smile at her and she'd laugh at his intelligent metaphor of smoking, and they'd be happy.

And then he told her, and everything spiraled downward.

All of a sudden, he was in the ICU, but they wouldn't let her see him.

Heard them saying, "I'm sorry, but only family is allowed to visit."

But he wanted to shout for her to come in, even though she didn't let him visit her.

There was a difference.

He was dying.

But, he'd thought she had been, too.

Either way, he wanted to see her one more time before the lights went out.

It never happened.

And here, slowly drifting away, all he hoped for was those pages to get back to her, somehow, if it was the last thing he wished for. His dying wish.

It was.
