Little Bits of Chocolate
.
Inuyasha sniffed the air.
His nose led him to Kaede's hut, where the fire had been put out, and a tray with dark bits of… food, he thought, was piled on top of each other.
"The heck is this?" he asked, stepping inside and squatting down, sniffing at the pile next to Kagome. The others looked up at him from their seated position in the room.
Kagome was pulling out little plates and setting them down on the floor. She glanced at him, the corners of her mouth pulling up into a smile.
"Hi Inuyasha," she said, voice chipper. "Happy Valentine's Day!"
"Happy whatta-day?" he grunted, picking up his back foot and using it to scratch the itch behind his ear. Damn bugs, they always liked to bite him in that spot.
"Valentine's Day," Miroku replied instead, shifting so he was slightly closer to Sango than he had been before. "Kagome made us chocolate. It's what they do in her time on this day."
Inuyasha watched Kagome pass out the plates, his eyes darting away from hers when she handed one to him. She was so damn cute, and for whatever reason today, she seemed to be glowing.
Next came the 'chaw-co-lot', which she picked up with the tray and moved around the circle, starting with Kaede and making her way to each friend.
"Oh, Kagome, these are too pretty to eat!" exclaimed Sango, picking up a heart-shaped bit to get a closer look.
"You have to eat it, Sango, they actually taste good this year! Last year I made them for Souta and I burnt them."
"But I don't want to. Can't I keep it to look at it forever?"
Kagome laughed, and Inuyasha flattened his ears, an automatic response to keep himself from reacting too strongly to the sound. His heart beat rapidly in his chest as she served Miroku, then Shippou, piling his plate higher than everyone else's with the little, dark pieces.
His turn was next, and he watched with a carefully structured expression as she placed little stars and hearts on his plate. The tops were covered with white and red hard pieces. He leaned closer and took another sniff.
Just like the first time he caught the scent, they smelled fucking fantastic.
Carefully, he plucked one from the plate, a little star-shaped one, and placed it on his tongue.
His eyes widened almost immediately and his head jerked in Kagome's direction. She was looking at him, and her eyebrows raised at his reaction.
"Good, huh?" she asked, hiding her laughter behind her hand.
Inuyasha nodded vigorously and shoved a couple more pieces into his mouth. He was so focused on the texture and the taste of the melted chaw-co-lot that he didn't notice that she returned to his side.
"Slow down," she said, her eyes wrinkling at the corners as a grin spread across her face. She reached out and swept a finger across the corner of his mouth.
He froze and watched as her finger came away with some of the chaw-co-lot. She popped her finger into her mouth and sucked on it.
She gave him a wink.

Happy Valentine's Day again, everyone! Hope it's a good one!
