Potential

A/N: Here's a little drabble that came to me after picking up the People HSM3 Collectors Edition. I was reading the section with the interview with Olesya Rulin (Kelsi), and there was a quote from her about her character (Kelsi). If you haven't read it, it was something along the lines of Ms. Darbus had never said she had potential but now as she has progressed through the movies Kelsi herself knows she has potential/talent no matter what praise she receives or doesn't. Anyway, enjoy! R&R! Thanks! –Mac

Disclaimer: I don't own HSM.

Potential

Ms. Darbus had an inclination toward those with more bright and blatant personalities. So, of course, she fawned over Sharpay and Ryan with their dazzling showmanship and sparkly-ness. And she loved Troy and Gabriella with their overwhelming chemistry and subtle, understated, raw ability to light up the stage with out even knowing it. While she was preoccupied with her four stars, Kelsi faded into the background where all good composers were meant to be—as Sharpay had so kindly informed her over and over and over again.

No, Ms. Darbus had never told Kelsi that she had the potential to do great things with her music. While she rained praise on her little luminescents, Kelsi had to run purely on her own motivations. She knew, knew, that she had acquired an adequate skill. Maybe she didn't have the same prominent, leading-lady (or man) talent that the forefront of the drama department had, maybe someone like Sharpay or Troy was a more suitable choice for a scholarship to Julliard, but she knew that she was damn good at what she did.

Even if Ms. Darbus couldn't see it, even if no one else could see it, she could see it. And that was all that mattered: the potential she saw in herself.
