Fluffy
Patrick had grown up in an environment that nurtured the love of all things unique and bizarre. From infancy he held a special fondness for fluffy animals and in particular the ones with unusual skills. He once owned a dog that could whisper, a cat that moo'ed, and a bird that played poker.
After his carnie days, though, the strange pets had fallen to the wayside. Patrick had a new wife and soon a new daughter to fill his days; gone was the need for quirky animals.
Sadly the chapter of marital bliss and domestic felicity came to an abrupt end in the most gruesome of ways. Burdened by unbridled guilt and self-loathing, Patrick entered a new era and obtained a new obsession, revenge. The idea that he might derive true joy or happiness from anything in life left his mind altogether, along with tthe idea that small adorable animals could be delightful.
This stage of revenge, like all the previous stages of his existence also came to an end. The object of his revenge had died suddenly from a heart attack while painting a red smiling face on some poor girl's wall. While somewhat disillusioned by the seeming failure of his quest for blood, Patrick Jane was genuinely glad that the infamous murderer was dead, even if not by his own hands.
The murderer's death, however, did leave a vacant spot in Patrick's existence and he found himself returning to an old passion. This passion had been reignited innocently enough during a murder investigation on a ranch. He had chanced a glimpse at a lamb as it nibbled some grass at its mother's side. Instantly the old flame in his heart rekindled. He wondered how he could have forgotten his boyhood love for so many years, but quickly sought to remedy the situation.
He searched high and low, scouring the planet for the one creature that would top all his previous pets. He called all of his creative acquaintances and posted adds everywhere he could. Then he found her, the most talented of all animal kind. Bayli. She was the fluffiest thing he'd ever laid eyes on, and she was not alone! She had in her possession her very own skilled pet, Conni. Bayli was his cotton pickin' sheep and Connie was Bayli's tail fluffing rabbit.
The moment Patrick saw them his heart had been well and truly stolen. They were the ones he'd been waiting for, and as he rebuilt his shattered life, his two delightful companions brought him a sense of calm and filled a void left empty for too long. They hielped him open the new chapter in his life, and after Teresa Lisbon became a permanent part of their happy family, Patrick Jane was finally complete.
