I wasn't sure where I was going with this at all when I first started it, so hopefully this is okay :P Please feel free to let me know if there are any mistakes, I'm a little rusty *shrugs*

I honestly wish there was more content on the relationship between Levi and Mikasa. I find their relationship interesting and I just love the idea of them as a family by the end of the story. So...I wrote this!

"I'm your uncle."

Mikasa still remembered the way the words shocked her beyond belief. Sure, she hadn't ever learned Levi's last name in all the time she'd known him, but she never expected a curveball like that. At first, she was too shocked to say much of anything, politely, be it stumbling over her words a little, excusing herself and hiding herself away in her room for the rest of the night.

And then the more she thought about it, the more it began to make sense. She could see it clearly now, the way he'd protected her over the years, taught her, watched over her, raised her. He knew all this time. And Mikasa was quick to realize why it was suddenly being revealed to her now; the war was finally over. The thought tugged at her heartstrings, knowing Levi must've been so worried about losing the last of his family during those years of war. But they'd both pulled through. They were both alive and well. They could be a family now.

But she was still struggling to wrap her head around the idea of having a relative. An actual relative with her blood. A family. She'd grown to care deeply for her team, her captain—though still sour as ever—included. And now she was learning he was her uncle? What did that mean for them?

Mikasa didn't see him again until the next morning, setting to work on cooking breakfast alongside her team. He met her eyes from his place at the table next to Hanji, papers spread across the wooden table before them. His expression was neutral as ever, just as Mikasa's usually was, but because of that she knew he wasn't as careless as he let on. He was just like her, hiding how much he cared behind a cold exterior wall, built up over time as pain was inflicted upon them time and time again.

She let a small smile grace her lips, eyes softening as she looked at him. And when she noticed the slight upward curl of his lips she knew he got the message. She was happy to have him as her uncle. She was happy to have any family left at all.

She turned her attention back to brewing the tea. He was family, and, while it was something new and unexpected, Mikasa was okay with it. Because they were together now and they didn't have to fear losing anyone anymore. Now, without the fearful shadow of death looming just behind them, they could live freely. There wasn't any pressure to hang on to what may be ripped away at any sudden time.

Mikasa would enjoy the presence of her loved ones without fear. She would open her heart a little easier and express herself more. Because now, she didn't have to be afraid.

She smiled a small smile. The war was over, after all.

Let me know what you think? :)
