"I fucking hate you!" Abby screamed, throwing a pillow across the room towards the man in the doorway. It was four in the morning and he had just gotten home. "You think you can just walk in and act like you haven't been gone all night?"
"I had work, Abs." He rolled his eyes. Another lecture, how brilliant.

"I did too! But I came home at eight o'clock and I sat and waited for you!"
"We have different jobs, how many times must I explain that to you?" He sighed, kicking off his shoes.
"Connor, you never stay out this late!"
"Are you jealous? Think I'm cheatin' or something?"
"No! Well—-" Abby shook her head. "I feel as if you don't care, that your work is more important than me…and maybe, a part of me feels as if you might be cheating…"
"I can't spend every minute with you!"
"I'm not asking you to. I'm asking you to spend ten minutes with me!"
"I do!" He claimed.
"When you're sleeping!"

Connor shook his head, his jaw clenching as he glared at the woman still lying in the bed. How daft was she? Why couldn't she understand? Cutter told him to carry on and that was what he was doing.

"Maybe I'm just more dedicated to the ARC than you are, more dedicated to the legacy of Cutter,"
"No, you're not! You're going to single-handedly destroy the future."
"Stop insinuating idiotic things, Abigail!" He growled.
"Don't you call me that." She heaved. "Get out, get out now! My flat, my rules!"
"It's our flat, Abby!" Connor rolled his eyes.
"Don't care, pack up your stuff and leave!"
"I'm sorry I can't be perfect like you are, I'm fucking sorry, Abby!" Connor shouted.
"I'm not perfect and I will never think of myself as that, so shut up." She glared, clenching the blanket tight.
"Well, you are to me…" He mumbled, knowing she wouldn't be able to hear.

It didn't take long for Connor to start picking up his shirts and trousers on the floor angrily, grabbing a duffel bag from the closet, stuffing them in. When he disappeared to the living room to get a few more things, Abby heard the door open, and she immediately ran out, hugging him from behind.

"Changed my mind…" She mumbled. "I don't want to be alone…"

And whether or not this was a constant problem in their relationship is almost irrelevant because the thought that someone needed Connor…made his heart practically burst.

"Sorry…my fault…I'm gonna try to be here…" He sighed, turning around and kissing her upon her lips, raking his fingers through her hair. "I love you Abby Maitland, don't forget that."

Even if this wasn't the last time he stayed out until obscene hours, or the last time they fought about this, those words would always be engraved in her mind. He loved her…
