Disclaimer : I don't own any of these wonderful people. Boy, I wish I did though....Ahem!
Ted walked to the large, beautiful townhouse and rung the doorbell. The door opened almost immediately after, and he found himself face to face with none other than Emmett, who was staring at him with a harsh and hurt glare.
Ted cleared his throat. "Em--do you think we could take a walk?" In reply, Emmett began to shut the door. Ted put his foot in the doorframe. "Emmett, please. I really need to talk to you."
Emmett stared at him for several minutes. "All right," he finally conceded. "Let me get my shoes." He went back into the house, shutting the door in Ted's face.
"All right, let's go." They began to walk down the street, neither one of them paying attention to where they were going.
"Emmett--" Ted began.
"What, Teddy?" said Emmett, smiling sardonically at the nickname.
"I miss you. I really do. And I feel terrible about kicking you out." He stopped on the sidewalk and put a hand on Emmett's arm.
"Ted," Emmett said, moving his arm where Ted's hand slid off, "I know that you are sorry. I got that from the many messages you left and Mel and Linz's machine. But I just can't take this from you. All the things you have done...you just aren't the guy I fell in love with anymore." He began to walk off. Ted quickly jogged back up to him.
"Emm, I told you. I just can't be that guy anymore. It's horrible. Right now, I am doing better than I ever have, can't you see? Please, look at me. Can't you see how much better off I am?"
Emmett turned slowly and looked into Ted's eyes. "You haven't improved at all. All I see is a guy with bloodshot eyes. I love you, and I tried to help you."
"Oh. So when you snorted a line with me, that is what you called help? Geez," Ted exclaimed.
"I was trying to tell you that I understood what you were going through, and that you needed to come back to us. Be the Ted that all of your true friends want you to be."
"Oh, is that what this is about? Coming back to my real friends? Let me tell you something Emmett. My true friends are leaving me in the dirt. My true friends can't see my improvement. Evidently, you aren't my so called true friends, because all you are doing is leaving me. So I found some new friends. Friends who want me, friends who care."
"But WE care, Ted. Me, and Melanie, and Lindsay, and Vic...we all care for you." Tears started to rise into Emmett's eyes. "We tried to help you. What you are doing is dangerous, and stupid. I know you, and I know that you wouldn't do something stupid like this."
"Stupid? STUPID? This is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and you call it stupid? I came over today to try to talk things out with you, and to show you that I still care. But you obviously do not care enough to listen to what I have to say." Ted walked off, leaving Emmett standing there, tears running down his face. "WE DO CARE!" he yelled after him. Ted hesitated, and then resumed his pace down the crowded sidewalk.
