I don't own any characters. The lyrics to this songfic are from Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks. Thanks to Snarky for betaing and the title.

Clark sat on the couch in his living room waiting quietly like a dutiful husband. Lois's voice broke the silence of the moment. "So, you're not going to tell me where we're going?"

"Nope. I want it to be a surprise," Clark called back.

Lois stood halfway outside the bathroom door. "What about my clothes. Are they appropriate for whatever you have planned?"

Clark looked at Lois wearing straight legged brown pants, with a maize colored button up shirt with brown boots that seemed to flow into her pants. "You look beautiful and yes that is fine for what we are doing."

Lois ducked back inside the bathroom continuing to groom her hair. "You don't need to spend too much time on your hair you're probably going to have to fix it again when we get there."

"Why is…" Lois stuck her head out of the bathroom and saw Clark's raised eyebrow. "Oh… Do you think I need to bring a jacket, then?"

"You might."

Lois watched the scenery as they floated along trying to figure where their final destination would be. She then spotted the Smallville water tower. "Okay, so just what do you have up your sleeves?" she asked narrowing her eyes slightly.

"You'll see," was all the response that she received.

They gently landed amongst some trees. Clark looked over at Lois with a completely straight face, "You might want to fix that right there."

Lois immediately began to dig in her purse for a mirror, "Is it that bad?"

Clark smiled, "No, here just let me." He softly reached out and smoothed down a few stray strands. "Perfect."

After they walked out from underneath the clove of trees Lois could see they were standing outside the high school football stadium. "A football game?"

"Yeah," Clark replied as he took her hand and headed inside. "I haven't been to one in years and I thought it might be fun."

Clark stood at the field entrance looking at the field while a flood of memories came back to him.

His reverie was broken by someone calling his name. "Clark? Clark, is that you?"

Clark turned around and was facing Lana Lang. "Hi, Lana."

"You looked like you were reliving the old days there for a moment."

"Yeah, I thought it would be fun to see how the team is doing." Clark looked at Lana.

Her appearance was still pretty much the same, but something had changed. The angst was gone. No more longing. No more wistful thoughts. Just a peaceful memory of a nice girl from high school remained. The silence stretched out between them for a moment.

"It was nice talking to you," Lana finally said.

"Same here," Clark nodded before turning back to Lois and slipping his hand in hers. "Let 's go find a good seat."

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.
Remember when you're talking to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care.
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.
