Summary: Ginny and Luna have the Gryffindor dormitory to themselves. Things aren't going quite according to plan.
Ginny watched Luna sleep, fair skin appearing even paler than usual, nearly white against the deep red of the Gryffindor's bedsheets. Luna slept the same way she did absolutely everything else: with absolutely no inhibitions whatsoever. Ginny stared avidly as she sighed slightly in her sleep, stretching a bit. Her arms were flung over her head, wrists crossed, fingers barely brushing Ginny's headboard, just begging to be bound there. But not tonight, Ginny reminded herself. Tonight was only for looking. Admiring. Thanking whatever benevolent dieties were responsible for this beautiful creature's presence in her bed.
So sometimes things didn't quite go according to plan. That was something Ginny was quickly learning, because in fact, with Luna, hardly anything went as planned. And she was also really beginning to appreciate it, because it meant that sometimes, trips to Hogsmeade could turn into hours-long makeout sessions in the school's secret passages, and friendships could turn into relationships that made Ginny feel things she had never felt before in her life.
It also apparently meant, however, that sometimes when you invited your new girlfriend (and really, she just had top stop for a moment and ponder that word -- girlfriend -- and associate it with the loveliness before her, and shake her head slightly in disbelief) to spend the night in your dormitory -- when you made it explicitly clear that said dormitory would be otherwise empty thanks to the winter holidays -- when you had thought you made your intentions clear enough -- well, sometimes then you ended up doing homework, and chatting a lot, and snogging a bit, sure, and then going to bed nice and early. And of course after that, what choice was there but to sit up, and take in the sight of the girl sleeping so peacefully beside you, and imagine all the things you could have done with that nice empty dormitory, an opportunity the likes of which you probably won't have again for ages...
Ginny stopped herself. Leaning down, she kissed Luna's forehead gently, careful not to wake her, before snuggling down under the covers herself and wrapping an arm around the Ravenclaw's waist. Luna sighed again, snuggling closer to her. As Ginny closed her eyes, finally shutting out the sight of Luna in the silvery-blue moonlight, she reminded herself -- things may not have gone according to plan, but this still easily qualified as the best night of her life.
