Tears
The tears that fell from her eyes were not from hurt, or pain or suffering. They did not illustrate a miserable life, nor did they frame a tragic existence.
Her tears were those of muted frustration. For years she'd convinced herself of a delusion, a surreal world where he was her enemy and that another was the man she loved. But he wasn't her enemy and she certainly did not completely love Ron.
It was as she sat in the breezy office that she came to regret her many lies and the life she had chosen to lead. At home she had a husband and child whom she had never come to appreciate.
She was cruel, she was cowardly and she was afraid.
But the tears were not because of this.
The tears were not a trace of humanity.
The tears were cruel, harsh and full of betrayal.
"I'm horrible," she whispered desperately to the empty space.
Silence filled the air and she sobbed.
The tears were those of frustration.
All her life she had wanted him but never chased him. All her life she had wanted him but always denied herself of him. It was her fault and her mistake. It was never to be easily fixed.
"What is your problem, Granger?"
His voice broke the stale silence and she turned swiftly to meet his silver eyes.
A moment passed as she contemplated his question and wiped away her stray tears.
"I love you."
She could not lie any longer.
