I just finished reading Endgame and it makes me very sad there are no fanfictions or fanarts out there. So I decided to make one about the two characters I love the most: Sarah Alopay and Jago Tlaloc. So if you haven't read the book, go on and read it! You're missing out. I hope you enjoy this short story.
~.~
Ungodly Hour
Jago stares at the clock attached on the wall. It's 3:54 in the morning. He's been looking at the hands of the clock ticking away for the past three minutes. The hands racing against each other, just like he and the other Players. He feels his eyes drying up and he blinks a couple of times before turning his attention to the girl cuddled up beside him.
Last night, Jago woke up when Sarah Alopay decided to lie down beside him on the couch. He pretended to be asleep as the Cahokian rested her head against his chest. Could she not feel how his heart sped up the moment her body touched his? He knew that the wisest thing to do was detach himself from her and find some other place to sleep...but he couldn't. He just couldn't.
Why?
He wasn't sure. Perhaps, it had something to do with the fact that ever since they met on the train, the emotions he kept buried long ago were slowly inching its way back to his heart; the emotions that seem to get more intense as they spent time together. Or maybe, he was just too tired and too lazy to move away from her. He was hoping for the latter but he knew that wasn't the reason.
What has he gotten himself into?
He continues to watch her. She looks nice that way, a small smile playing on her lips as she slept. He carefully turns to his side to get a better view of her. Sarah stirs a bit but doesn't wake up. She truly is the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Not just in terms of her physical appearance but also the goodness of her heart. He closes his eyes and he mentally hits himself on the head. Surely, he isn't falling in love with this other Player whom he knows he has to kill at one point. Jago has fallen in love before and he ended up broken. He's not going to fall in love again and not with her. He couldn't be. He can't be.
He looks at the clock and he blames the ungodly hour for all these thoughts plaguing him. He's not in love with Sarah Alopay. He tells this to himself over and over despite the fact that her face is the one he wants to see, her voice is the one he wants to hear, and her hands are the ones he wants to hold. Sure, he cares for her but he couldn't possibly be in love with her...right?
And the thing that annoys him the most is the fact that he doesn't want to sleep with her. Well, okay, he does (He is a man after all and Sarah is very attractive and he does have needs). But as he watches her sleep next to him, her body cuddled up beside him, he realizes he doesn't want to do anything but watch her and envelope her in a warm embrace. All his thoughts about her at this moment are innocent and that is what freaks him out the most.
Jago Tlaloc has always been practical...except now. So instead of leaving Sarah alone on the couch and distancing himself from the Cahokian, he wraps his arms around her, rests his chin on the top of her head, and smiles.
