Takes place during one of the Time Loops of "Window of Opportunity" after Jack has reached his breaking point.
CARTER'S NEBULA
"I found it!" Jack exclaims, practically running into the briefing room, where Daniel, Teal'c, Carter, and General Hammond are waiting for him at the conference table.
Everyone looks him in surprise as he goes to the computer interface, and starts typing quickly, muttering as he has to correct a few places. Finally he hits enter and then turns around, effectively blocking the screen from their view.
"Gentlemen- and Carter, especially for you, I give you your own designated nebula. Tah dah!" He steps aside with a flourish. "The Doo-Hickey Nebula!"
A picture of an impressive starfield appears on the monitor. Floating through the middle of it is a long dark shape, twisting and turning dramatically against the bright background.
They gape from him to the image on the screen.
"Jack?" Daniel asks. The rest of that sentence is clearly meant to be "Have you lost your mind?"
"Colonel," the General says sternly. "You know we have a serious situation on our hands."
Teal'c stares off into the ether, having accompanied O'Neill through so many of these Loops, he is immune.
"Well, Carter?" Jack ignores the others. "Whaddya think? Impressive, huh?"
"Uh... Sir. It's actually called the Doodad Nebula," she says hesitantly.
"Argh!" he cries, throwing his hands in the air. "Doodad. Doo-Hickey! What's the difference. I'm sure they named it just for you!"
Please take a closer look at the icon I posted for this story. I didn't make that up! The Dark Doodad Nebula! NGC 4372 in The General Catalogue of Nebulas and Clusters. Found it this morning at Astronomy Picture of the Day.
