It was a beautiful dream, filled with pastries and candies and warm arms holding him tight…reality might not have had the pastries, but when he opened his eyes to the morning light, there most definitely were arms around him. The patterns of the others breathing informed Tsuzuki the other man was awake, patiently staying in bed so as to not wake him by moving. Tsuzuki turned a sleepy, contented smile up at Tatsumi, not awake enough to want to venture out of bed, but conscious enough to curl tightly against his partner, basking in the physical contact and the muzzy happy feeling that came from waking up warm and secure.

"What am I going to have to lure you out of bed with today, Tsuzuki?" There was a definite smile in the older man's voice, a quiet amusement at the lethargic cuddling of his bedmate. "Hot cocoa? Apple turnovers? Coffee Cake?"

"Dun haf' to get up. Day off." Tsuzuki murmured into the base of Tatsumi's neck, entirely too comfortable to have any intention of moving in the near future.

"You might have a day off. But I do not." Tatsumi rubbed Tsuzuki's back, earning a near purr from the other man, before he pulled away and stretched, intent on getting up and moving on with his day.

Tsuzuki showed his displeasure by grumping alone in the bed, listening to the other man move about in the kitchen. Then the smell of chocolate drifted in, reminding him that Tatsumi had mentioned cocoa…

There were few things in this world containing chocolate that Tsuzuki could resist, which was of course what Tatsumi depended on when he heated milk on the stove. He was going to make proper cocoa for his partner this morning. None of that hot water and powder nonsense. As soon as he started stirring chocolate into the pot, Tsuzuki wandered in, sniffing, eyes sparkling with interest. Tatsumi only had to chase him away from the stove a record three times before the cocoa was actually finished and poured into two mugs. He set one before his partner, mussing a hand through Tsuzuki's hair affectionately before sitting down with his own mug. They sipped in companionable silence for a few moments, Tsuzuki a ball of bliss and Tatsumi radiating a quiet pleasure in seeing his partner happy. It was a simple thing, pleasing the younger man, a balance to the deep unhappiness that hovered beneath the smiling eyes. Tatsumi wanted to do everything he could to keep that smile. And if it was something as easy as making cocoa in the morning or holding the other through the night, than maybe this partnership could work out.

It was a new arrangement still, almost more of a mentorship than a partnership, with its faults and flaws, but Tatsumi was addicted to the smile that would beam across that beautiful face.

"Hey, Tatsumi, don't you have work to do?" Tsuzuki, his cocoa gone, finally returned his attention to his partner.

"I do. And I will get to it shortly. More cocoa?"

The way Tsuzuki's eyes lit at the suggestion pulled a chuckle from the older man. It was worth it, all of the tears, the frustration and the anger, to see that smile. Taking Tsuzuki's mug he made his way back to the stove. No matter what happened in the future, he was going to do his damn best to make sure that those purple eyes never lost that smile.
