"What do you mean; they never made it back to their hotel?"
Detective Inspector James Courtney swallowed, refusing to break eye contact with this quietly angry man.
"Mr Holmes, after your call, we made enquiries. No one has seen them since they left the offices of Pennyman Financial. We were boxing up evidence, we didn't need them, so they left."
Mycroft glowered.
"So what are you doing to find them?"
"We were going to wait until first light."
"My brother should have checked in with me three hours ago, to ensure we picked up the corrupt local Councillors before they could bolt. Waiting will not do, mobilise a search party now."
The man moved with alacrity, assigning traffic officers to sweep the route they should have travelled, and soon Courtney took the call that he'd dreaded. With some trepidation he explained the situation as the two men headed out to Mycroft's car.
"My officers are searching the area, and an ambulance is on route."
Giving directions to Mycroft's driver, the man then fell silent.
They reached the field at the same time as the paramedics, following their vehicle through a gate.
Uncharacteristically, Mycroft leapt out of the car, striding into the outhouse with little regard for his clothes. He crouched beside the two men.
"It's alright, you're both safe now brother."
