Chapter 1. New Year.

Hermione's parents dropped her off at the train station. She had found out during the summer holidays that she had become Head Girl. "Surprise, surprise", she thought. It had always been obvious that Hermione would some day be Head Girl. No one could beat her when it came to brains and she wasn't about to let anyone soon. "Harry and Ron would probably soon arrive", she decided. 'May as well wait for them'. It was tiring being friends with the two boys at the height of their puberty. They soon arrived with Ron carrying an old and rather battered trunk and Harry with his new shiny one, both with their respective owls. They were deep in conversation. 'Either girls or quidditch', Hermione mused to herself. Jesus was she getting tired of that. It was either quidditch or girls or quidditch and a 'Hermione what the hell was that assignment on that Snape gave us?' added in somewhere. Although Harry was still the considered as the more thoughtful boy of the two, he had grown a lot over the last few summer holidays; the most noticeable would have to have been this one. Harry came back with a tan from a month in Spain where his uncle, Vernon Dudley had gone over to sign a deal with a building contractor. It made him look a lot older, yet still with the boyish charm and his compassionate nature. Girls would giggle aimlessly whenever he was around. 'They always seem to act suddenly stupid whenever Harry is around', Hermione thought bitterly. 'Which probably is the reason why he never wanted to ask me out'. But you really couldn't blame Harry, who had dated some of the most beautiful girls in Hogwarts. Take Padma and Parvati. Both looked stunning and beautiful, slip Hermione in between them and you probably wouldn't have noticed her at all. But if you saw Hermione by herself she couldn't be called anything less than pretty. Ordinary, with brown eyes and brown hair, but still, they were the chocolate brown eyes that could have easily been described as the oh so sexy 'bedroom eyes' if she ever tried, and hair, though it wasn't bushy anymore, had a neat curl to it. But there was still that little something that she had and the twins didn't have. Some would call it that high and mighty air she might have (considering she knew basically everything, why not?). But many would have agreed it was something else. The thing that most other girls didn't have or didn't know how to get. Something called quality, something that made her charming, fun to be with and easy to talk to - the stuff that Head girls were supposed to be made out of. As her two best friends approached she smiled at the glad to see them after so long 'Hermione', Ron exclaimed lifting her in the air and giving her a tight squeeze. He was the tallest out of the three and was known to be a charming young man who could give you a hell of a game of chess. 'So, how was your holiday, head girl?' he queried with laughter in his eyes. 'Me and Harry were so shocked when you owled us to say had actually become one!' Hermione laughed out loud and replied in mock sternness, 'Harry and I, Ron'. As Harry and Ron walked Hermione towards the Head Boy and Head Girl compartments, an arrogant young man directed his elves to where his set of trunks were to be placed as he also made his way towards the same compartments. * * * Well??
