Quick,
remember what it feels like
to (breathe).

Exhaustion has flooded her senses, leaving her muscles aching and her head spinning. But not so much that she can't still see him, can't still feel his arms against the small of her back.

Close.
Closest he's ever been.
(Alarming), isn't it?

She wonders briefly if he knows what a kiss is, if he has any memory, any recollection of one. Any story placed inside his head about a childhood romance that never existed. But she can see in that raw gaze that he has indeed heard of kisses, but one does not exist in any of fictions placed in his mind.

What?
What do I do now?
I've never been (here) before.

The sand twirls around them in tendrils as the dream breaks apart, as they fade from the world of her psychic brain and back to reality. His hair is tossed back by a ripple of wind that strikes his jagged bangs. A smile that conceals both happiness and confusion lights his lips. She tries to smile back, as her heart hammers against her chest.

Move.
Move forward and seal it
or (stand) back and wait.

She's wanted this for a long time now, but has been too afraid to say it. For what can you say when those sky eyes pierce? It's like they know you and don't know you at the same time. But he's a confusing boy and she's learned to understand that. To love it, really. She's falling for him and she knows it, slowly but surely.

Now.
Don't wait for the moment
to pass or (slip) away.

She brings her face closer, terrified to no end, strangely calmed by the cool air that wafts across this alien world. He watches her and their faces are almost touching, and she's amazed at how utterly easy it is to just give in, to bring her lips closer to the point that they are only seconds from—

The silence is broken as a sphere slams across sand and screeches into their midst, its metal creaking and clanging like some angry beast. His head jerks away, his eyes turning to look in surprise. The dreamlike feeling snaps shut like a jewelry box and the moment is gone.

But his hand remains at her side.

Wait.
Just…wait.
In time, it will all be made (right).

She does not allow the small disappointment to linger, but instead flies back to the base with him, his arm around her as she gently lifts them both into the sky above the sand dunes. He smiles at her with even more confidence now, as if he has been made more aware of her presence than ever before. This pleases her more than anything that could have happened earlier.

And, if she's honest with herself, she knows it will happen soon. Truly happen. But for now, she just has to wait.

Author's Note:

I was feeling a little poetic tonight, so I decided to do some messing around with imagery and poetry. I ended up writing something that I thought I could fit to Megan and Conner, and here's what I got.

Anyway, this is based off of the episode "Bereft" where Conner and Megan (Superboy and Miss Martian) almost kiss but are interrupted by that stupid sphere thing. But I remain confident us fangirls and boys will be satisfied eventually. ;)
