It was indescribable. Even after all she had done to him, all that had passed between them, his powers was still every bit as much at her disposal as before. Even now he was still completely, down to every inch, hers. Not even now was there the slightest chance that he could he deny her her wish.
He keeps looking through the window at the happy crowd inside, most of them brought there by him. He feels strangely numb. Not bitter, not sad, not pondering over revenge or a way to get even. There isn't, in this moment a shred of anger in him. It's as if the world has completely slowed down. He feels empty yet complete. Peaceful.
'Cause somehow he just knows. It's like the universe decided to let him on its master plan and its all clear. He knows that someday, Sarah Williams will return to him. Not running or creeping back defeated, but walking back in triumph with her head held high and laughing. She will have hundreds of more victories behind her by that day and be hundreds of times stronger but still be the same Sarah, his Sarah. So he will wait. And then, on that day, she will once again win over him. But it will be a victory he'll welcome with open arms. Until then… he had no other choice than to wait.
The owl spreads its wings and takes off into the sky. The laughter from the crowded bedroom dies out slowly behind him and he closes his eyes and dreams for a while of a time; when laughter exactly like this, only brighter and better, will be surrounding him and he will be joining it.
