Don't own anything in this story but the ideas. And even some of those I stole from others, though I'll try and give credit when credit is due.

Prelude

Rachel had no idea why she had boarded the plane.

She had a job to do, one that didn't involve her being shot at once a week. One in which dating your co-worker wasn't something you had to hide all that much, as long as one didn't outrank the other that much. She had insurance, a pension, and had control of a whole platoon of people ready to serve coffee at a moment's notice.

'Face it Leeds. You can't stand the thought of being cooped up in an office.' A voice in her head reminded the blond haired Brit as she walked crispy out of the front doors of the airport. Rachel sighed in annoyance at both the voice and the sudden heat. Europe hardly got as hot as the south of California, Rachel tried to ignore the fact that she was wearing a jacket as she flagged down a taxi. She had bigger problems then the weather to face that day.

"Ms. Leeds," Rachel braced herself for the slight hug of greeting that Smith seemed to love giving his ex-agents. It had made her slightly uncomfortable at first before getting use to the older man's way. Three and a half years ago she had started feeling sharp jolts of guilt when Smith had given her such a warm greeting. Rachel have her boss a slight squeeze back and smiled back before sitting down in a chair, legs crossed and looking professional. Smith also sat down and folded his hands together, a sure sign that whatever he was going to say was serious.

"There is no other way to say this; the secret side of N-Tek may be reinstated." Rachel stared at him in utter shock.

"Did the UN manage to get through the red tape for clearance?" She asked, after the United States federal government had found out about the secret side of N-Tek the UN had been forced to do a lot of scuffling and apologizing to various countries. Things had been smoothed over in time, but quite a few people had been fired or been demoted in the UN. Smith had managed to find all but a handful of his people good jobs around the world and had kept everyone from prison. The man looked a bit guilty, answering Rachel's question.

"I would completely understand if you decide to not take the job. However I needed a few agents and you are one of the best." Rachel thought of her cool, cozy office with its coffee and biggest surprise being the copy machine breaking down. She looked through the folder that Smith handed her and swore before she could help herself before looking up at the man. "One week, then I'll give you my decision."

Smith smiled at her. "I'll give them a call then."

A/N: Oh just wait. As you can guess this takes place after season 3. I guess a sort of season 4 but not as well written hahahaha. You'll be getting more out of me in later chapters but for now enjoy the prelude.
