Venders were all over the park, selling everything from toys and food to art and furniture, each trying to push their wares on passersby. Among these venders was a young woman, who was of average height and athletic build. Though she was only in her early twenties her hair was as grey as ash, but as smooth as silk. This fair grey haired maiden stood behind her stall trying to sell her families crop; which consisted of lettuce corn and whatever fruits and herbs grew wild on their estate.
"Liadan! Come take a break and shop with me!" A willowy brunet called over the crowed as she elbowed her way through to the small stall followed by her personal servant. Liadan sighed and looked at the small amount of food she had left to sell feeling a small pang of longing. "I'm sorry Sheridan but I can't. I must sell what I have or my father won't be able to afford Elaine's medication."
Sheridan frowned, lines of worry appearing on her face. "Little 'Lainy is still ill? I'll have my father go to your home later. I'm sure he wouldn't mind taking a look at her."
Relief and then doubt swept through Liadan's fair features. "We could never afford to pay him…" Sheridan smiled gently at her friend and touched her shoulder. "Lia, I should have thought of it sooner, my father is the best doctor for miles around. And you're family there's no need to pay…" Liadan opened her mouth to protest but Sheridan interrupted her. "However, since you seem to feel the need, I'll take all your produce here as payment. I'm sure father would agree that this would be sufficient payment." Liadan hesitantly nodded knowing that she was right.
With a bright smile Sheridan motioned to her ever present servant. "Will you please take these goods home, and tell father he needs to stop by Master Dempsey's home to tend to his youngest daughter Elaine." The servant bowed her head and began to put the vegetables and herbs into her basket. "Now, miss Liadan you must come with me, and I will find you the perfect get well gift for little 'Lainy."
Sheridan then grabbed Liadan's hand and dragged her away from her stall. The pair passed many stalls before Sheridan found the one she was looking for. The vender was selling furs, potions and 'magic' rings. Liadan nearly scoffed when she saw one with a tag claiming it would make the wearer invisible, odds were it would only blur one's appearance, invisibility had not yet been achieved by any magical means. "Lia?" The grey maned woman looked at her friend, who was holding a grey fox tail. "These are supposed to bring good luck…" She clipped it to the back of Liadan's pants. "Aw, you look cute with a matching tail. As adorable as you are though give it to 'Lainy." Liadan smiled at her friend's oddness and nodded. "I'm sure she'll love it."
Elaine always held a fascination with foxes, and collected their tails in hopes that one day they would lead her family to a fortune and they wouldn't have to scrape by anymore. This would be the fourth of her set, now she would only need a white one.
"Stop! Theif! Someone stop him!" A shout went out in the crowd. Liadan turned, but was too slow as a boy no older than twelve bowled into her, knocking her into a rack of potions, shattering and spilling their contents all over. Feeling leaden Liadan fell to the ground and unconsciousness followed.
