Hey there. I'm Mike, and I used to live on Earth.

Now? Not so much.

*sigh*

There wasn't even any warning. Everything was just the same as any other day. Until it wasn't. One second I'm walking home to my wife and daughter, the next I'm waking up in some God-forsaken forest.

At first, I was confused to no end. I couldn't wrap my head around what could have possibly happened, as I had automatically ruled out the obvious answer. Of course, it also happened to be the right one.

I didn't really know what to do, so I started wandering aimlessly– if only to pass the time. It certainly helped to just let my feet take me wherever they wished while my brain busied itself with its futile task of explaining my situation away. And to myself, at that.

After a while, I kinda just ended up stopping somewhere. I still don't know what grounds my wander encompassed. I may have simply walked in circles for hours. I honestly don't know. After I stopped, though, I sat for a time in a trance, not thinking, maybe not even breathing. I'm still not entirely sure of what happened until I heard the distinct sound of wood snapping close by.

The sound was enough to break me from my thoughtless stupor, and I stood to find the source of the noise. The trees were very dense in the forest, and I had to take a few steps to the side to see what had snapped the wood.

In hindsight, I'm not sure if that was the best decision I could have made or the worst.

I looked around the tree and saw a huge beast several yards away, having just snapped a fully grown tree in two for seemingly no reason. When I saw the giant black wolf, something about the absurdity of my whole situation came crashing down, and I let out a noise somewhere between full belly laughter and a terrified shriek.

The beast instantly turned towards me, red eyes glowing, and gave a loud howl. The howl was more than enough to bring out more of the terror than the absurd amusement and sent me fleeing through the trees at top speed.

Despite my best efforts to escape, I could hear the beast gain on me with every stride. It wasn't long before I felt the flash of pain from its claws raking across and into my back. Moments later, I hit the ground face up, and the great beast landed on top of me, crushing most of my bones instantly.

I didn't even get the chance to struggle as it ended my suffering with a swift application of its fangs to my jugular.

In fact, it happened so fast, I don't even think I got to have any final thoughts, let alone last words.

If I could choose 'em now, though? That's an easy answer.

"Why me?"
