The Secret Of The Underground Cave
"Ahhh!" Katara screamed as she fell down what seemed to be an endless tunnel. Psssh! She finally reached the bottom of a beautiful cave lit by what looked like diamonds, and landed on a soft mattress that had been placed there by Zuko.
"Zuko!" she yelled. "What are you doing here?!" she demanded from him.
"Same thing as you. Azula's men captured me and threw me down here," he said.
"Liar!" she exclaimed as she whipped water out of the air.
"Calm down, hair loops. We might as well try to get along. Neither of us know how long we'll be down here."
Katara didn't relax her offensive pose.
"Okay, well, I'm going to sit down over there. When you calm down, maybe we can talk," Zuko said as he walked away calmly. After a minute or two, Katara realized that he had no intention of hurting her, so she went and sat by him. When she did, he leaned in closer to her, and neither of them seemed to notice.
"Why aren't Aang and Sokka down here?" Zuko asked curiously.
"I made them go on ahead and took on ten men by myself to buy them time," she answered.
They were both getting very cold, and all they had was the mattress. Soon they would get hypothermia.
"Zuko, please don't make things awkward if I ask you this," she said cautiously.
"What is it?" he questioned.
"I'm very cold, and there's a mattress, and there's two of us, and if we don't preserve our body heat we won't survive, so will you lay on the mattress with me?" she said quickly and nervously. She had no idea why she was so nervous. He would probably reject her idea, but she was still on edge.
"Of course I will. I wish I could make a fire, but there's nothing that will catch fire down here," he said.
They both got up and started walking toward the mattress. Zuko reached out and grabbed Katara's hand, which made her blush. When they got to the mattress, they laid down together and started cuddling. Zuko put his arm around her and pulled her close, so that her back was against his chest. Just as they were about to fall asleep, she turned around and kissed him.
"Thank you for being here for me. I know I didn't say it, but I'm scared," Katara said.
"I'm glad you gave me the chance to be here for you. We'll figure this out in the morning, I promise," Zuko said.
"Goodnight, Zuko."
"Night, Katara."
Katara fell asleep after a few minutes, but Zuko couldn't sleep. He was thinking about how he should act towards Katara in the morning. Friend, boyfriend, brother? He liked Katara, but he was confused about how she felt.
None of that really mattered, because several hours later, Aang and Iroh came through the tunnel on a chunk of earth that Aang was bending. Katara jumped off the mattress and ran to give Aang a hug. Before they left, Zuko swore he would one day be her boyfriend.
