REMEMBER ME

Josh slowly walked through the cemetery, one person on his mind. It was the 3 year anniversary of Grace's death and even though he and Zara were married, she showed enormous tolerance and didn't complain when Grace's anniversary came around each year. He was grateful to her for that, as in reality he should have let Grace go, but Zara understood the relationship between Josh and Grace and the extent to which it had gone to more than he could comprehend and the fact that she did not say a word about it except to hand him a generous bunch of white roses and tell him to say hi to Grace from her.

Josh shook his head still amazed at how compassionate Zara was towards him in regards to Grace. She saw that the bond between Josh and Grace had been strong.

Josh made his way along the row to where Grace was buried. He sank to his knees and gently placed the bunch of roses on top of the grave. Last year, Connor had put in a polished granite headstone in place of the wooden cross that had stood there previously. On it underneath all the words about Grace, was a poem that Zara had written for Grace and sent to Connor. He remembered the phone call he received later and how emotional Connor was and how much he appreciated the poem and said that he would include it when he had Grace's headstone made. Josh, still kneeling, read the poem over and over. It really was a beautiful poem.

Remember me and the times we shared

Remember me and know that i cared

Remember me and the love we shared

Remember me when I am no longer there

Remember me as a star in the sky

Remember me when you want to cry

Remember me in the month of may

Remember me, im not far away

Remember me in that white dress

Remember me with my hair in a mess

Remember me with a smile

Remember me for awhile

But never forget me.

He thought back to all the moments that he and Grace had shared and how every moment was special. The stolen glances, the secret smiles, the hesitant hand holding, right up to the time they sealed their love by sleeping together. That was the most glorious moment, when they bared their souls, their hearts and their deepest emotions. Then he thought of Zara and realised that if he tried to compare Zara and Grace, Grace didn't come anywhere close to how he felt for Zara. Zara was his equal, being a former assassin, forensic specialist, expert marksman (or markswoman), could speak at last count 10 different languages so fluently it was scary. Due to an accident where Michael had accidentally hit her while opening the boot of TR1 which had resulted in her suffering a torn rotor cuff in her left shoulder (which had healed but would take time to get it back to weight bearing level again. Zara didn't blame Michael even though Josh blew up at him) she relegated herself to giving Leon a hand with Intelligence and proved to be an invaluable asset in that regard.

Josh felt something wet land on his jeans and looked down. He was shocked to find he was crying. He wiped his eyes and stood up.

He knew he would never forget Grace in this lifetime, but his life was with Zara and that was what mattered most.

"I'm sorry Grace, but this is the last time I can come and see you. My life is with Zara now and I know that I will never forget you, but I need to move on. Goodbye Gracie".

He stood up, brushed off his jeans and walked away, allowing himself one final glance over his shoulder, then continued walking to his car where he got in and drove off, not looking back.
