Title: Waiting
Main Character: Annabeth Chase
Status: MOA never happened
Be warned: you may or may not cry… I know I leaked a few tears… Also, there is implied suicide. If you have anything against suicide, I suggest you don't read.
Pale as Death, no more than a haggard bag of bones, she slowly wasted away until she was only a pale imitation of the beautiful and vibrant girl she had once been.
Immobile and silent as a rock, she sat on the beach, waiting. She didn't speak. Didn't eat. Barely breathed. He was coming back. He had to.
Hours ticked by.
Days.
Weeks.
And still she sat, and gradually she hunched over, trying to curl around the empty, aching hole inside of her.
People swarmed around her like annoying bees. They shot concerned queries at her, which she paid no heed to. They slapped her, and it hurt- brought her back to reality for an instant. But then she was gone again, the slaps like a minor annoyance in the whole scheme of things. She didn't hear anything, respond to anything.
She was dead inside, as he was dead outside. It finally clicked. He wasn't coming back.
She would never again feel his warm sturdy feeling, his aura of safety and security;
Never again feel the optimism and cheer he radiated…
Never again feel loved, have someone to love.
She cautiously stood up, weak with hunger and under use of muscle. But it didn't matter.
She wasn't aware that she was entering the water until the cold water was lapping at her painfully skinny ankles. Each tiny, freezing little wave sent a shock through her, shudders running up and down her spine.
She waded deeper into the water.
'Annabeth' his voice whispered in her mind.
And she knew she had to be with him. She wasn't thinking as she fumbled with her knife, as she drove the sharp blade into her stomach. Didn't feel the pain, or the warm blood seeping into the cold water.
All she could feel was her life slipping away from her, but the feeling of him getting closer and closer…
And she found herself not caring that she would never again feel the sun warm on her back, never feel alive again.
All that mattered was that he was just beyond the horizon… waiting.
What did you think? Was it too angsty? Please share your opinions with me, and maybe click on my name and have a look at my other stories. If you could leave a review, it would be much appreciated, so that I know that I am not writing for nothing.
