Because I know you all want to know how Edward got Jacob to come back after hearing his and Bella's conversation in Eclipse.

--

Edward could clearly tell where Jacob had gone; there wasn't much effort needed to see the trail he'd broken through the undergrowth. Imprints of heavy steps were carved into the ground, slowly growing closer and closer together until Edward could actually see Jacob standing in a small clearing.

"Nice job." Edward paused, frowning at Jacob's stance. It was closed off and, once Edward moved to stand in front of him, the expression on his face was malevolent. "Jacob, what's wrong?"

Jacob uncrossed his arms to rake his fingers through his hair angrily, a habit he'd developed when he was frustrated over something. "I hate it, Edward! I don't even want to picture the two of you getting married, let alone hear it from your mouth!"

Edward's eyes softened and he reached out, laying his hand on Jacob's arm. So that was why he'd left that fast; because he really had been hurt. "You know that for every 'I love you' I give her, it goes tenfold for you. You know it's always your face in my mind, Jacob. Always."

"I know, but..." he trailed off, biting his lip. "Why? Why do we have to pretend like this?"

Edward's smile was wry, the smile he used when he was reminding Jacob of something--yet again. "Because you're her best friend, and--"

"And she's in love with you, right." Jacob frowned in distaste, but his hand moved to cover Edward's anyway.

"Right," Edward repeated. "And I love her, and I know you do too. I don't think either of us wants a repeat of my leaving--and neither does anyone else here in Forks. We should at least give her time to move on first, and I'm helping her do it--I've dropped enough hints about not wanting to get married for even Bella to notice, and she doesn't notice much."

"Yeah." Jacob sighed, and then a grin brightened his face. "Did you see the way she looked at Newton yesterday, though? You're pretty good at unattaching people."

"Except you," Edward said, drawing Jacob closer. He hooked his free arm around the werewolf's waist, smiling fondly at him. "I don't know how to unattach myself from you, and even if I did, I don't think I could."

"Good," Jacob responded. Finally he turned their embrace into a full-fledged hug, growling into his--what was he now, boyfriend?--his Edward's hair. "Because hiding the fact that I've imprinted is really hard, especially when I go all soft and stupid and show-off-y whenever I see you."

"It does amuse me, though," Edward said, smiling, and Jacob rolled his eyes. "Now let's get back before she manages to get herself killed."

"Sounds like something she'd do," Jacob said dryly, but kissed the vampire tenderly before whirling and darting back into the forest. Edward could only smile and follow after him, praying that the unattachment process would somehow speed up.

It's sappy, it's fluffy, and it's kinda Bella-bashing. What more could you want?
