Violet sat up with a start. She did not know what had happened. Fedrick was leaving the next day, and there she was, sitting on the floor, crying bitterly in her heart. She knew she liked Fedrick a lot, but she just did not have the courage to speak up. What was there to talk about when he was going to leave? It was three in the morning. It was just a matter of hours and she would have to wake up to prepare breakfast for the people. Just then, she heard a knock on the door. "Who could it be?" She thought.

Fedrick stood there. He looked very distraught. "Oh, it s you. Do you have anything to tell me before leaving for your uncle s house?" Fedrick had another uncle, who is Count Olaf s brother, Ginjer Olaf. "Nothing much actually. Just want to take a look at you before I leave. Violet, I...." "Yes?" "I can t bear to leave you!" He said, embracing her at the same time. Violet pushed him away. "Fedrick, no. Don t give your bright future up because of a little worm like me. It s not worth the sacrifice." Violet said, tears brimming in her eyes. "But, but I.....I just can t forget you, Violet!" Fedrick exclaimed. Without further hesitation, Violet closed the door. She was crying by then.

The next day, everyone woke up bright and fresh except for Klaus who slept on the floor. It was his turn yesterday. The other two who were looking restless were of course Fedrick and Violet. "What a night!" Count Olaf commented. "Fedrick, have you asked Ginjer to come fetch you? He can be forgetful sometimes," Count Olaf remarked. "Fedrick! Don t look so glum! You are leaving for a brighter future ahead. There s nothing here which can make you stay except for me of course!" Violet ignored the comment while pouring tea into Count Olaf s cup. Fedrick looked up at Violet sadly. His heart was breaking into pieces which could not be pieced together unless Violet did that. The scenario was like yellow leaves falling from a tree which was going to be barren any moment then. "Sunny, here s something from brother Fedrick. It s a watch. See if you like it," Fedrick said while passing the watch to Sunny, who was busy munching on her bread. "Sunny, give it back," Violet commanded her sister. "But it s really beautiful! I don t want to give it back!" Sunny said. "Sunny!" Violet said sternly, while putting the teapot down hardly. "Hey! Be careful of my glass table!" Count Olaf shouted. Sunny burst out crying. Klaus tried to console her but to no avail. "Bring her up, Klaus. Give me the watch," Violet said, looking over at Fedrick. Klaus brought Sunny up to their room, patting her back on the way up. Count Olaf took his bottle of water and walked out of the house. He was going to meet his theatre troupe up to discuss the upcoming drama. Upon reaching the door, he said to Fedrick," Fedrick, don t stay too long. My brother doesn t like to wait." "Yes Uncle. I will," Fedrick replied, looking at Violet. Then, Count Olaf went out.
