Gaang Of Misfits

Once she stepped onto the school bus, she saw she had very few choices. Every seat was filled with two or three people.

Every seat but one.

In that one seat sat a boy by himself. He had his hair down, shaggy and ragged all over his face. He wore a blue graphic tee that read 'BOOMERANG!" and darker blue shorts. He had one knee up, staring out the window.

Being the only seat available spot on the bus, she sat next to him. It's not like I have to talk to the guy or anything, right?

Wrong.

"Hiya!" An ecstatic boy from the seat behind them had jumped up to greet her. He wore an orange toque with a blue arrow pointing downwards, though his dark hair leaked through.

"I'm Aang! This guy next to you is Sokka, and she's Katara!" He gestured to the girl next to him. She had a blue beanie on her light brown hair, and a frilly blue shirt to match. She waved and gave a girly smile.

"Sokka and I are siblings, not sure if you noti-"

"What's your name?" Aang interrupted.

"Toph." She faked a smile. Spirits, this kid is annoying.

"Toph. That's a cool name! Sounds like tough!" Aang giggled.

Sokka leaned over and whispered into her ear. "If you think he's annoying already, you've got a lot coming."

He let out a loud snort of laughter at her worried expression. "You'll get used to him."

Aang stuck his head in their seat. "What'cha whispering about? You can't start keeping secrets the first day of school! Tell me! I want to know!" he chirped desperately.

"Calm down, Twinkletoes, no secrets." Toph told him, pushing his forehead to get him out of the seat.

"Twinkletoes? No, I'm Aang! Wait, is that an insult?"

Sokka raised his eyebrows. "I think it's a new nickname."

"Twinkletoes…? Meaning what?" He was now quite literally hopping.

Toph and Sokka couldn't hold back their laughter.

"Gee, I wonder." Sokka chuckled.

Toph knew this group was strange. She knew they weren't specific either. She could tell they weren't all smart, they weren't all athletic, they weren't all pessimistic. They were misfits. She felt like she was supposed to be there. She fit in with this small gang of misfits.
