Naley- Just As I Am

"So, what are we doing out here, Nathan?" Haley asked as she and her husband walked down a familiar street in their hometown of Tree Hill.

"Well, I have a surprise for you."

"Oh, really, what is it?"

"Do I really have to give you the definition of surprise, Ms. Tutor?" Nathan opened a door for his wife.

"Why are we at Clothes Over Bro's, and where's all Brooke's merchandise?"

"Like I said, I have a surprise for you. Sit right here." Nathan took a chair from the side of the room for Haley to sit on, and then went to the back of the store.

"Nathan, what's going on?" Haley asked when she saw Nathan come back to the front with an IPOD dock with an IPOD attached.

"Remember, when you sang a song for me here at Karen's?"

"Of course, I sang Elsewhere by Sarah McLachlan."

"Well, since you sang for me, I think it's time I sang for you."

"Really?" Haley asked skeptically. "I don't think I've ever heard you sing anything."

"Exactly."

"Okay. Let's hear it."

Nathan gave a calming sigh before he pressed play on the IPOD. The intro to the song that played has a 80s beat.

I've had a lot of big dreams
I've made a lot of bad moves
I know you could walk away
But you never do

I've met a lot of cold hearts
I've learned to smile and deceive
I know I'm hard to be around
But you never leave

I'm not easy to understand
But you hold out your hand

Nathan knelt down in front of Haley and took her hand in his.

And you say you love me
Just as I am
You always treat me
The best that you can
You say you want me, need me
Love me, baby
Just as I am, just as I am

Nathan smiled at the tears in Haley's eyes and kissed her forehead before resuming his position in front of her.

I've made a lot of heartaches
I've found a lot of closed doors
When all the others turn away
You love me more
You love me more

I'm not easy to understand
But you hold out your hand

And you say you love me
Just as I am
You always treat me
The best that you can
You say you want me, need me
Love me, baby
Just as I am, just as I am

I want to love forever
To keep our world together
And be the best that I can be
Baby, every time the world caves in on me

And you say you love me
Just as I am
You always treat me
The best that you can
You say you want me, need me
Love me, baby
Just as I am, just as I am

The music stopped and Haley wiped some tears from her face before she spoke. "Oh, Nathan, that was beautiful. Thank you."

Nathan pulled Haley up from the chair. "I love you, baby. And I want you to know that I know that I've put you through a lot all these years and I appreciate you standing by me through it all. I know it was hard, and I wasn't always the easiest person to love, but thank you."

"I love you too, Nathan, and I always will. Always and Forever."

"Always and Forever." Nathan picked up the IPOD dock and put it back in the back room. "Come on, let's go." Nathan said as he came out of the back room.

"Where are we going now? Or is that a surprise too?"

"No, I'll tell you, since you put up with my singing." Nathan led his wife out of the store and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, bringing her close. "First, we are going to diner and then back home for some alone time all weekend." Haley was about to protest. "And before you say anything, Brooke has Jamie at her place all weekend."

"Well, haven't you just thought of everything." Haley stopped to kiss her husband. "And by the way, you weren't that bad. Not tour worthy, but still not that bad."

"Wow. I don't know how I should take that clearly backhanded compliment. Thank you?" Nathan said with sarcasm.

Haley laughed as they continued their walk towards the restaurant.
