Title: Seize the moment

Myka Bering stepped into the hotel room and almost stepped back out in surprise. She would have if Pete hadn't been right behind her.

"I think they gave us the wrong room."Myka stated.

"What makes you say that?"Pete asked as he stepped around her. "Oh good they got my instructions."

"They?"Myka asked as she stared at the candle lit table for two set up in the front of the room.

"The front desk."Pete replied as he shut the door and took Myka in his arms. "I thought the Warehouse owed us a decent meal. Plus with that view why waste it?"

Myka turned to look out their fifth floor window to the canals of Venice, Italy below. The case of a ballerina with a possessed mirror that brought them here ended hours before. However, there were no flights home until after midnight. The hotel they had been in was booked solid. Pete had found this one with Claudia's help.

"Everything's beautiful."Myka commented with a smile.

"Including you."Pete complimented as he kissed her.

"Not that I mind."Myka began as they broke apart and walked towards the table. "But this isn't your usual style, Pete.".

Pete held the chair out for his partner as she sat. Then he took his own seat.

"I've been thinking of Jack and Rebecca a lot lately."Pete began. "They seized the moment and grabbed what happiness they could. Thought I better start doing that."

Myka nodded and she reached over to squeeze his left hand. "Pete..."

"I know we get caught up in the day to day stuff."Pete continued as he entwined their fingers. "And I don't always say it..."

Myka felt tears begin and she blinked them back. "Pete, you don't have to."

"I want to."Lattimer countered. "I'm damn lucky to have you in my life. You're my best friend and a kick ass partner. I love you."

Myka leaned forward to kiss him. "I love you too."

"Let's try to do this more than every once in awhile."Pete suggested as Myka settled back in her chair.

"Sounds like a wonderful plan."Myka replied quietly. "Doesn't matter what we do as long as we remember to take time to enjoy us."

"Agreed."Pete acknowledged.

As the sun set over Venice Myka had never felt more relaxed or as happy as she did at that table with Pete. It was one of the best times of her life though Myka had a feeling future date nights would only get better. She didn't need candle lit dinners every time...just Pete. Everything else was a bonus.
