Chapter 1: It's Been So Long
Mystery Chronicles
Alrighty guys, this is not my first attempt at a story, but my first at posting one. I'm only doing this in hopes that I'll get good feedback, and that I manage to finish tweaking my characters. Now, keep in mind, this will end up crossing over with several types of games, anime, and possibly movies. I will mention this, as I will in every chapter: there may, or may not be spoilers.
DISCLAIMER: I only own the OCs of the story. None of the games, anime, movies, characters, settings, or plot belong to me (obviously).
Now without further bugging, let the chapter begin! - FoxFire
( Chapter One )
( It's Been So Long )
Deep within a desert, thousands of people had gathered to listen to music (techno) and party their hearts out. For this noise was a very large rave, one of the very few that were still around due to an ecstasy overdose of a minor. Loud music blared and bright, shining lights filled the night sky. At times, crowds of people could be heard over the music, mainly when the bass had dropped. A young man was just barely entering the crowd. He walked a very long way to get to this rave.
He was looking for someone. His family had gone to the rave without him so he thought he would surprise them by visiting, with a twist. This young man stood at six feet and wore black robes with a hood that hid his face. For years, he was able to keep his power in check and hidden from the eyes of the curious. He did not want to cause a massive stir in the city, or anywhere else, and he did not want to be a human test subject for those who wanted his power, mainly for war. Tonight was different; he was going to show off everything he had if he had the chance, and the first people he wanted to see were his family.
The young man pushed through the crowds of jumping and dancing people, some were even shuffling or breakdancing. He finally spotted his target: a young woman standing fairly shorter than him with long blonde hair. She was wearing sunglasses, short shorts, and a white t-shirt. She was rolling, high on ecstasy and enjoying her time at the party.
Next to her, dancing, was a man that stood a few inches taller than himself and had short black and white hair (like salt and pepper). He was also wearing sunglasses, black and blue checkered shorts, and a black undershirt. He could tell they both high on E (ecstasy) considering their fluid body movements and actions.
The young man then decided to make some room for himself, pushing people back to open a large circle in the crowd. In the middle of the circle, he clapped his hands together, causing a loud noise to echo through the crowd. All the lights suddenly went off, but the music was still playing in the back ground (looking up a techno playlist may help with this scene). The moment the lights went out, the man's sleeves began to glow rainbow colors.
Two glowing rainbow whips slowly slid from his sleeves, and he gripped them tightly. He began to strike at the ground, the whips sending out a blast of color that soaked the crowd in a bright array of glowing colors. Oddly, this did not bother the crowd; it only made them cheer louder, but he wanted his family to notice this. Fortunately, they did, standing directly at the edge of the circle.
The crowd cleared around the young man during his display of colors. He threw the whips into the air and they exploded, sending a shower of glowing raindrops into the crowd. It was as if the sky were raining a glowing rainbow. The rainbow shower made the crowd go insane and cheer even louder.
His family also was dancing and covering themselves in the glowing liquid, the colors an insane display while under the influence. He pulled off his hood and let his long, dark brown hair fall onto his shoulders, stopping at his mid back. His hair quickly became bright with green pink and other colors as the rainbow rain continued on. This is what he wanted, but he was far from finished.
His family finally noticed the source of the display was him and were quite surprised. They did not get the chance to say anything, as he clapped his hands together again. "Fire," he muttered softly, and a bright flame shot from his hands and into the sky, filling the night with a great flame. This caused the crowd to quiet down out of pure shock.
He closed his eyes and muttered again, "Ice. " The fire quickly froze in place, shattering and sending sparkling shards of ice into the crowd. It was quite beautiful to watch but ended quickly when the music shut off. A black shadow quickly sped through the crowd and bashed into the man's chest with its shoulder. This newcomer was shrouded in tattered cloaks and a very worn down hood that still managed to obscure his face. The man flew a few feet away from the newcomer and landed on his back. He was quick to get up, wanting to investigate who this person was.
The whole scene caused the crowd to go into a slight panic, and they backed away from them creating a large amount of space between the two. "Found you!" the shrouded newcomer said, as a long, black claymore slipped from the cloak and into his hand. He quickly spun it, pointing it at the young man and chuckling softly. "You thought you could run forever? you had to of known that this whole scene would draw us to you. Oh but where are my manners? My name is Rumiko, and you're confused. I can tell!" he said as he stabbed his sword into the earth below him.
Then he leaned on it and began to explain, "You see, I have a dear friend of mine that seems to have taken up home in your vessel…or body. Body is easier for you to understand." He coughed slightly, pulling the sword from the earth. He swung it up and rested it on his shoulder. "Where do you think you got your powers from? Everything has an origin story, you know!" This whole scene startled the young man's family and even caused the female to yell his name out.
"Kyle, are you alright?" she yelled, but the young man did not answer.
Kyle, the young man, shrugged, "I knew he was there, I was just hoping to finally show that we are not fake. We are able to wield magic and use it to benefit us, or others around us." Kyle took a deep breath and tore open a mini portal in thin air. This surprised everyone around him, even Rumiko. Kyle pulled a long, white great sword from the portal before it collapsed. He then swung the sword around, mimicking Rumiko, and let it rest on his shoulder.
At that moment, Rumiko lunged at Kyle only to be stopped by a shadow-like hand. The hand reached out from the ground and pulled Rumiko into the earth. Kyle to dropped his weapon to scratch his head, "Well, that happened… Oh shit!" He looked around at the crowd. Some people had scattered, running away from the scene, but a small handful remained. His family in the crowd gathered around him. "I never got to finish my display..." Kyle sighed heavily, brought his hood back up, and began to walk away. The sword he dropped quickly began to fade into thin air as he walked away from it.
The blonde headed woman tried calling out to him, telling him to stop and wait for them to catch up. The moment they caught up to him, Kyle was pulled through the earth just like Rumiko had been. The hand that grabbed him was blood red this time, rather than black as night. Kyle passed out the moment he was pulled through, and his family was left kneeling down, touching the ground where he had vanished.
Kyle's eyes slowly opened; all he could see was white. The room he had woken up in was quite bright to him, but he was not sure why. After taking a few moments to adjust, he tried to stand up but a soft, red, and fuzzy hand pushed him back down. "Easy now," a feminine voice called out to him. After a few more moments, he finally looked over at the source of the voice.
It was a wolf morph (wolf anthro), he knew that type anywhere. He heard that they existed in different types of furry communities or at fur suit conventions, but this one was real... Or was it? He reached up and touched her nose. It was real. The wolf morph batted his hand away and pushed him back down when he tried to get up again. She was currently wearing a black dress with long, shoulder-length gloves. The dress was quite baggy, and he could not tell her figure.
"One size not fit all?" Kyle finally asked but received no answer. She only crossed her arms. She was covered in red fur from head to toe, but had a line scar across her eye.
"My name is Rose. I was lucky to pull you out of there when I did. Your power was spiking, and I was afraid he'd be released too early," she said. Kyle thought over her words for moment.
"So you're the one who kidnapped me," he said finally, crossing his arms. "Wait, who's this 'he' you speak of?" he asked, looking dead into her piercing emerald eyes. She could not look back into his though. His hood kept an unnatural shadow on his face to conceal his features.
"He is Mystery," she said after a moment of silence. "Your being is fake. Your life is also fake. Your body and soul were needed to help bring him back from the dead... But we lost you, and you ended up in the care of someone else when you were younger." Rose sighed slightly and patted him on the shoulder, "You are Mystery. Kyle is not your real name. Your real name is Mystery A. Nyoki." She stood up and began walking towards a door.
This gave him enough room to check his surroundings. It seems he was in a hospital wing of an old castle. Grey walls with wooden supports across the ceiling. He felt like he was sent back in time. There were also numerous sheets draped over movable walls to give other patients privacy, but he was the only one in the room. "Listen, his...Your memories will come back in due time. For now, why not try to get some rest and let this sink in, okay?" Rose said, waving to him before quickly leaving the room.
The moment she shut the door she clutched her chest Her heart was beating rapidly, and she couldn't believe it. This young man was Mystery, her Mystery. It felt like it had been ages since she'd last seen him, his long white hair and his long trench coat. Her cheeks began growing warm as she shook her head quickly and continued down a narrow hallway, taking a left onto what seemed like a modern day elevator. She pressed a lone button on the panel and the doors closed.
Kyle tried his best to rest and let the things Rose said sink into his mind, but nothing made sense to him, aside from the fact that his power seemed to have no effect in this place, and his strength seemed to be much, much weaker. The medical wing was nullifying his powers, making him almost human. "Well no one's tried to kill me, so I guess I can try to relax," he sighed. The moment he closed his eyes, he was tackled by a human woman that had long, wavy blonde hair and bright eyes with red heart-shaped pupils.
"I can smell Mystery on you… in you? SOMEWHERE!" She sniffed around on Kyle for a moment. This took Kyle a moment to notice but she had cat ears and tail.
"That explains one thing..." he muttered as he finally pushed her off. This gave him time to get a good look at her. She was wearing jean shorts and a short cut tank-top, which constricted her DD Bust.
"What? You don't like hugs anymore, Mystie?" she asked, giving him what seemed like puppy dog eyes.
He simply shrugged, "One, I've no clue who you are. Two, who the hell is this Mystery everyone keeps talking about?"
She tilted her head at his answer, "You don't remember yet...? Damn." She hung her head defeated and walked away. What she did next shocked Kyle. She phased directly through the wall.
"Well that explains how I didn't see her coming..." He finally closed his eyes and was able to pass out, falling into a deep sleep.
In the elevator, Rose finally reached her destination and stepped out of the elevator. The building's structure looked as if it completely changed. She now was standing in a modern hallway, with peach wallpaper and red carpets. She continued down the hallway and into another room. It was quite small, looking like it was built for one person. "Guess I should contact the others and let them know he's home but..." she sighed and looked around the small room.
There were a number of cellphones hanging on the wall and a computer desk underneath it. The computer looked quite high-tech, with a large, flat screen. It seemed to be the only thing on the desk. She sat down in the office chair and tapped on the screen. It booted up quickly and greeted her with a welcome page before taking her to her desktop.
She placed a finger on the screen, dragging it into thin air. Then she stretched it out, tapped a few icons on the screen, and began typing. She was sending a message to a large number of people.
"Dear guardians, gamily, and friends of the Nyoki,
I've found Mystery after searching the dimensions for a very, very long time. He is resting in the medical wing but has no memory. I'd advise everyone to keep their distance from him until he can fully remember who and what he is.
Rose"
She hesitated a moment and sent it to everyone close to Mystery. After a moment, she stood up and started back down the hallway, towards the elevator once again. "I wonder how SoulBound would react to Mystery being back..." She sighed once again and pressed the big "D" on the panel. The elevator took her up to another hallway, but this one was shorter and forked off into seven different paths.
Taking the far right pathway, Rose continued into a large room that had a massive amount of weapons on display. Many types of guns where on tables, and a variety of swords, axes, and daggers were hung on the walls. She took more interest in the large display case. She quickly opened it and counted the several black pills that were scattered inside. She counted 40, so she took ten and slid them into a bag she had, hiding it in her bust, behind the baggy dress's top. She quickly put the small bag back and closed the display case. "These should help us a bit..."
The pills she took were special doses that she created herself during her time traveling through dimensions. They were made to help enhance dimensional travel without pain, and help the consumer travel farther. Each pill lasted a very, very long time, so there was no need to make a large number of them. She went back down into the elevator and went back to medical wing to check on Mystery.
As soon as she entered the medical wing, she noticed Kyle was fast asleep, but his hair was turning pure white and growing longer. He was also growing taller. "It's happening so soon..." She walked over to the side of his bed and pulled the hood off so she could see his face. His hair was indeed growing longer, though it was a bit hard to tell due to his hood. It was strange too see white hair growing out of blackness, where his face should of been.
His face began growing scars: two under his chin and three across his cheek. "Even his scars..." She gently touched his face and his eyes shot open. Looking directly at her, she noticed his eyes were also a piercing emerald in color.
Suddenly, he spoke, "Rose, what are you doing?" She jumped up away from him, her cheeks growing hot once more. She turned away from him, not wanting him to see.
"N-nothing, I was just checking on you. Please get some more rest!" she said and made a quick exit, slamming the door behind her.
"Well, that happened," he scratched his head and closed his eyes once more. Rose leaned against the door and slid down it as she let out a heavy sigh, "It really is him! My heart, it can't take it. I feel like it's going to explode every time I look at him!" she said shaking her head quickly, "I should have followed my own words, given him space…" She stood up slowly and started for the elevator once again. "I guess I should try and get some rest myself, before I end up passing out just from seeing him... It's been so long."
(I believe this is where I'm going to end it for now. A short chapter, but I'll be sure to try and make the later ones longer, thank you for reading and stay sane - FoxFireNyoki)
