Follow thy heart

This was a disaster. A complete and utter disaster. Ulquiorra wasn't sure why people liked to party so much. Celebrating was different. But randomly partying? No, he highly disliked it. There were contents of food all over the place. People dancing, drinking, flirting, kissing; all in one place. Disgusting. He couldn't believe he let his room mate drag him downstairs. A shitty party hosted by Ichigo Kurosaki in their hostel building of their college.

The only comforting thought was that he was going to leave this place after he graduated anyways. He decided to bear with this for a while. But then again, he couldn't take it anymore. The room temCerature kept on rising as people came in, joining one after the other. Feeling suffocated and a tad bit disgusted, he walked over to the window and was about to open it to get some fresh air, only to get stopped by Ichigo.

"I'm sorry man, I can't let you open the window. Can't risk getting expelled in the last year for hosting a midnight party." He said resting a hand on Ulquiorra's shoulder.

"Whatever." Ulquiorra said stoically, brushing past him.

He heard Ichigo mutter 'rude' behind his back. But he didn't care. Kurosaki was always his eternal rival. They both had psychology as their major subject. Not only that but both were also Professor Byakuya's favorite students. Even though, despite all of this Kurosaki showed signs of having Ulquiorra as a friend, Ulquiorra didn't care.

Forgetting his earlier dispute with Kurosaki, he diverted his attention elsewhere; namely the entrance to see some girls entering the place. Two of them he knew. Rukia Kuchiki, otherwise known as Byakuya Kuchiki's sister and Orihime Inoue, her brother had recently died. That was however not all he knew about her. On the contrary one could say he knew her quite well. He wasn't sure if the term 'friend' could be applied on them but he wished for it secretly.

Ulquiorra had first met Orihime in art class. The teacher had been running late like always. Orihime seeing him unoccupied had insisted that she would teach Ulquiorra how to make origami stars. Ulquiorra was prone to boredom. In that instant it had seemed interesting, so he'd decided to go along with her request. He knew it was fruitless to refuse her anyway, that she would still teach him by force even if he didn't agree on it. She was just persistent like that. As time passed by, he ended up knowing a lot about her; from less talking and more observing.

Perhaps, he had taken a liking to her. Denying this particular thought, he looked over to the place where Orihime was standing with a drink in her hand. She was talking with her friends when she noticed him looking at her and waved at him saying 'Hi' with her unoccupied hand. He did the same.

An hour later, Ulquiorra was seen to be having a drink out of utter boredom. On the other hand, Orihime was trying not to pass out from all that drinking. She was sitting on a sofa, holding her stomach, swaying as if she was trying not to throw up. Consumed in her drunken state, she didn't notice Ulquiorra sitting down beside her.

Gulping down the last of his drink, Ulquiorra sat down beside Orihime. She had her eyes closed. He noticed her light eye make-up; light brown shadow over eyeliners on both eyes. he absentmindedly noted they were nicely done. He always admired her simplicity. After some moments, Orihime opened her to eyes to see who sat beside her. She blinked a few times to adjust her blurry vision to see Ulquiorra sitting beside her.

"Hey Ulqui!" Orihime greeted, although unable to pronounce his proper name in her drunken state.

"You're very drunk." Ulquiorra said.

Orihime giggled holding her right hand in front of her mouth in a shy manner. Her bracelet made a tinkling noise as she did that. Ulquiorra noticed her bracelet then. He narrowed his eyes seeing it. The accessory was old, but it was very important to the girl. She wore it all the time. Ulquiorra guessed that it must have been her brother who gave her that.

"Do you like it?" Orihime said pointing to the bracelet she was wearing; still giggling.

Ulquiorra didn't pay any heed to the drunk girl. Instead, his eyes were still on her bracelet. Not because it was pretty or very important to her but he was just extremely bored. Had it ever been mentioned that he could be very evil when bored?

"Ulqui, can I rest my head on you?" Saying that she placed her head on Ulquiorra's shoulder.

Ulquiorra didn't exactly mind but his hygiene senses were telling him otherwise. He started fiddling with Orihime's bracelet to ignore the feeling. He was looking closely at the bracelet that he was playing with and noticed that it was quite old. He was confirmed that it was a gift that the girl cherished dearly.

An evil idea came to his mind the next moment.

Orihime woke up the next morning feeling tired and groggy. She licked her dry lips and tasted alcohol still present in her mouth. God, she felt absolutely disgusting. She regretted accompanying her friends to that party. She regretted holding Tatsuki's drink in her hand while Tatsuki went to talk to some stranger. She regretted tasting that awful drink. She regretted taking more of that. Overall she regretted getting drunk.

Taking a deep breath, she let herself blame her friends to get over her current situation. She focused on staring at the ceiling to stop her tears from forming at the corners of her eyes. While staring at the ceiling, she noticed her surroundings. It was unknown to her. The room was dark because of the heavy curtains of forest green color. Now she felt like crying even more.

"You were drunk last night." Ulquiorra spoke.

Ulquiorra's voice startled Orihime. She found him sitting on the couch a bit far from the bed she was currently occupying. She immediately sat upright and sighed in relief. Her negative thoughts had run too far and she thought that she had been kidnapped or worse. But now seeing Ulquiorra, she felt better. Alot better.

"Thank god, Ulquiorra it's you. Ugh, I thought I slept with some guy. I mean, we didn't sleep, right? Because, you're not like that. I was drunk. I had no idea... Okay, I should stop." Orihime's face turned red saying all that in one breath.

Ulquiorra found her reaction to be quite amusing

"Relax. I gave you my bed to sleep in." Ulquiorra said calmly.

"How the hell did I even get here?" Orihime started panicking again.

"I couldn't find your friend. So, I brought you to my place."

"Wait. What was I doing last night?" Orihime sounded worried.

"You were sleeping on me, woman." Ulquiorra said while smirking. He waited for Orihime's reaction to his words. He wasn't disappointed.

"I'm so sorry Ulquiorra. You must have felt disgusted." Orihime frowned saying that. She was ready to spill her tears at any moment.

"Your friend called on your cellphone. I picked it up and assured her that I'm with you."

"Thanks... I should probably get going." Orihime stood up fixing her hair.

"Here. Take this book. If anyone asks you about being here, just tell them you came to take my art book." said Ulquiorra as he handed her his art book.

"Thanks for helping me last night Ulquiorra. Just... don't tell anyone about this." Orihime said in an apologizing manner.

"Don't worry about it."

Finishing their awkward conversation Orihime clumsily hurried out of the boys building gathering her purse in her hand. On her way back to her building, she kept thinking if she was missing something but she couldn't think of anything that could be missing.

Later on that day, when she was about to go to take a shower in her bathroom, she noticed her most precious belonging gone from her hand. As if struck by lightning, she realized.

Her bracelet was missing.
