A/N: For some reason, not many people are fans of Nightcloud. Am I the only one who feels sorry for her? Well, here's my attempt to show the REAL Nightcloud, someone who made a mistake, was used, and was punished for supporting the people she loves. And, well, I hope you all like it.
Disclaimer: Warriors doesn't belong to me.
Prologue
It's over.
It's over.
Oh StarClan, it's over.
I choke down a sob as I follow Breezepelt. He's my son, the only thing I have left. Crowfeather... he never loved me. It took me a war to realise that he was just using me. To regain favour among our Clan. He didn't love me, and that hurt.
"Where are we going?" I ask Breezepelt. He lashes his tail.
"I don't know," he snarls. "Away from the Clans."
"Right," I agree tiredly. I have no idea where we are- there's moorland, a stream in the distance, nothing much else. No scent of prey. I sigh.
We travel all through the day and well into the night. Still no scent of prey touches my nose. I'm weak and wounded from the battle, starving and so thirsty.
"Breezepelt," I croak, "We need to stop."
He glares at me over his shoulder. "No, mother, we do not," he growls. "If you can't handle it, then don't. Stay here. Go back to WindClan. I don't really care."
"You can't leave me," I sob. "You're the only thing I have left!"
"Then quit your moaning and hurry up!"
I sigh and follow him. We stop at dawn, and I lapse into sleep.
And so the days pass. We navigate through a two-leg place, always heading towards the rising sun. We find a riverbank and follow it upstream. All the while, I grow sick and tired and I'm starving. By the time five moons have passed, I'm as thin as I've ever been. I can see my ribs through my pelt. Breezepelt doesn't seem to care. Eventually, I can't take it any more, and collapse.
"Breezepelt," I whisper. "Please. Don't you think we've run far enough?"
"No," he snarls.
"I can't go any further," I croak. "Please, let's rest."
He fixes me with a stern glare. "No. Goodbye, mother."
Then he turns around and walks away.
"Breezepelt!" I call after him. "Breezpelt, please! You're all I have! You can't leave me! I can't loose you!"
He doesn't say anything. He doesn't even aknowlege me. He just carries on walking, until I can't see him any more.
I raise my head and look around. I'm lying at the side of a river, in a gorge of some sort. I sob. It's so unlike home. I want to go home!
I dip my head towards the water and take a small drink, then rest it on my paws, exhausted. The world starts to spin and blur around me. I close my eyes.
StarClan, come for me soon, I plead, just before darkness slams down.
