Originally planned as part of my first oneshot, the text got somehow deleted and didn't appear in 'Here we go'. I rewrote the text then, because I had a new idea with it: Now it's a sequel and companion fic to 'Here we go', both focusing on Vert and his thoughts during the few times Gelorum talked to him.

#2: Chances
'Why you sacrifice yourself for Tesla?'
Vert raised his brows: What was this for a question? Some time ago, Gelorum had yet tried to irritate him by showing off how much she was in advantage because of the AcceleChargers – and now she indicate she was concerned for him? More likely pitied him.
If she wanted to distract Vert from the race again, it was no good anyway. He didn't race her because of Tesla – he did it because he had to help Tesla, Lani and Gig who were prisoners of the Drones. And he would just do that.
Even with Gelorum as his opponent.
'You're just another machine-' Oh great: Like on cue, her, the grand Gelorum again; but that she insulted him being a machine, whereas she always said she was so very proud to be robotic drone...
In Vert's opinion, that drone really talked too much.
Fortunately, Sparky stopped any further babbling of her by turning on the music, so they couldn't hear her anymore. But even if they would: For Vert, mistakes weren't allowed to happen now, and neither he would allow a stupid drone or her stupid words make him do mistakes.
Nevertheless, her words had reminded him he had a second reason next to his first one to worry about.
Lani had said that the others were still at the Headquarters of the Drones. He didn't worry about that, though. Monkey, Porkchop, Karma, Taro, Nolo, Shirako, Tork, Kurt and of course Markie had never been those people to give up easily, different from himself who had gotten uncertain and left the AcceleDrome just because of the truth he wasn't the best driver in the world; maybe he had come back then, but soon he questioned and blamed himself again for being a liability. His self doubts and low self-confidence even had made him decline to help saving Markie.
Now this refusal turned out to be a blessing and a chance, however: Except him and Sparky escaping, all persons who had stayed in the AcceleDrome were now prisoners. And so certain Vert was that all his friends, including Markie, would return safe and sound, so certainly he knew when they now came through the portal, the Drones would immediately capture them, too. Furthermore, all of them were in this situation doomed to death, because if Gelorum won the race and came back to the AcceleDrome, she would destroy the humans.
The only way to prevent this and rescue his friends, was to stop her at any costs, not only keeping her off victory, but at best to get rid of her – even if Vert did not know yet how to accomplish this.
Until he would have figured something out, he just hoped Gelorum wouldn't tell the Drones to smash his friends before he would have done this task. Or that the Drones would do it anyhow.

If you wonder why Vert thinks Gelorum talks too much: Even when she said only few things to him, every word coming out of her mouth is just annoying - and I agree totally with him. Like with him, she gets on my nerves with her talking. I mean, she as a robot who is proud of 'being better than the filthy humans' - still she insults Vert that he is a machine serving Tesla or something like that. - Gelorum really has some screws and wires loose. -.-
Oh, yes, here is the disclaimer: I do not own AcceleRacers.
