Beating the Odds
Beating the Odds

The Falcon races ahead,
My love at her helm -
The race between us
Finally come to an end.
Pushing the envelope
Was always her way,
No matter how hard,
No matter how far.
She banks upwards,
An effort to breach
The last barrier we saw
-
The one we'd never
reached.
The Falcon strains
higher.
Even as I fall back,
I can see her climbing
Into the cerulean sky.
Something goes wrong!
The air is too thin.
The Falcon stalls out,
Begins her last descent.
I firewall the throttle,
Knowing I'm powerless -
Unable to turn away
From her deadly fall.
Too late I arrive,
I see her go down -
I watch my love founder
-
Victim of our dreams.
Darill, so much have
I yet to tell you,
How much I loved you -
How fortunate I was.
Now all life lacks
value,
Everything is a game.
Why were you the one
that died?
I was the one who
lost...
