Hey Guys! This my first attempt at a Beth-centric (Slightly Bethyl) One-shot.
Dedicated to all Bethlievers and Beth fans out there.
Enjoy!
No one can see her and no one can hear her.
No one can see her confusion. No one can see her fear.
No one can hear her screaming. No one can see her crying.
And Beth doesn't fully understand why.
She's not dead but she's not fully alive. Her spirit was left wandering. She's not sure where her body is but she knows it's still breathing. She can feel her heart beating in her chest matching the faint sound of a heart monitor constantly ringing in her ear.
For days she wandered with them. Walking with no purpose and no destination.
No one can see her or hear her…until Tyreese.
She watched him slowly die.
She tried to comfort him all throughout. She keeps telling him "It's okay, Tyreese." over and over. She wanted to ensure him that she forgives him and tell him that none of what happened to her was his fault.
It was her choice and now she's paying the consequences.
She wasn't the only one that Tyreese can see. She doesn't know if there are other lost souls like hers around that she cannot see. Or perhaps it was the virus spreading through his veins causing him to hallucinate.
Tyreese fought hard to live. "People like me. They can live.", he said.
She wished that what he said were true. That people like them can survive this world. That you don't have to give up your humanity to survive.
He fought…he fought hard but in the end it was just too late.
It was his time.
She felt it.
She felt the warm, light and peaceful feeling of coming home. She felt it surrounding him. And it eventually took him.
But why not her? Why won't it take her?Why won't it bring her back home to her father, her mother and her brother?
She can see how devastated Maggie was over her "death". She understood and she doesn't blame her. She just wasn't built in this world like Maggie was.
Maggie has always been protective of her. Always the first person to come to her rescue.
Just like the time when a bully was tugging on Beth's pigtails and calling her mean names. Maggie came running and threw sand on the bully's eyes and proceeded to kick him. She was grounded for a week but she told Beth that it was worth it. She said, "No one messes with my baby sister and gets away with it."
Maggie failed at protecting Beth not once, not twice. She lost her sister and gave up trying to find her because she believed that she didn't make it.
And just when she thought she would get her sister back, just when she thought she'd get a second chance with her. Just when she found the strength to hope again…it all just came crushing down.
She now she lost her sister again. She was forced to leave her sister's body behind. Just like the time she was forced to leave her father's body behind. She never even got a chance to say goodbye. Never got a chance to give them a burial they deserved.
And she blames herself for that. She tortures herself for that.
She wanted to tell Maggie not to lose hope. She wanted to tell her she's not dead yet. At least Beth doesn't think she is.
And she wanted to tell Maggie that she loves her. That she forgives her.
Beth wanted so much to comfort her sister. God know how much Maggie needs it. But she can't.
No matter how much Beth scream and yell. No one will ever hear her.
Maggie may be the strongest and bravest out of the two sisters. But that was mostly because of Beth.
Beth was the one person, beside's her father, that she gains strength from. Beth was the one person who never gave up hope for a brighter future. And that hope was where Maggie gets her strength to keep fighting each day. Maggie fights to give Beth that future.
And now that the hope was gone, what other purpose does Maggie have left?
She watched Daryl close himself off from the group. He doesn't talk to anyone unless necessary.
Volunteering to find food or water was just an excuse to separate from the group.
"I think she saved me…she saved you too right?" Carol asked Daryl.
She did, she saved Daryl from himself. He was ready to give up hope but she wouldn't let him.
He thought he lost the only family he has left. He lost the only family he cared for and cared about him. And that was all on him, he shouldn't have stopped trying to find the governor then maybe Herschel would have still been alive. Maybe Beth would still be safe inside the prison.
But Beth made him saw his value and gave him purpose. She made him see that there are still good people left.
She was the only good left in his world.
She's the only light in his dark world. And now she's gone and he can no longer see.
Beth wanted so much to embrace him. Make him realize that she's still with him and that she'll always be with him.
She tried but to but her hand only passed through him. It frustrates her that all she can do right now is watch him suffer.
She watched him burn himself with a cigarette. His attempt at numbing his pain only worsened hers. Daryl said to her in an angry burst that he never cut himself looking for attention. She was ashamed when he brought upon her moment of weakness. And now it pained her that she's seeing the same weakness in him.
She cried with him afterwards. She doesn't know how long she sat with him crying. Thinking back at the memories they shared together.
She missed his smile. A slight upturn of his lips that you would easily miss unless you're looking for it.
She missed his laugh. A low chuckle that you can barely hear.
She missed brightness of his eyes. The eyes that expressed how happy he truly felt.
She missed him.
She wished that she'd hear his laugh and see him smile. She wished with all her might that she'd see Daryl be truly happy again.
She wished she could be with him again.
She watched her family struggle to keep the walkers out of the barn. She stood there feeling useless and it frustrates her that she cannot do anything to help them.
So she did the only thing she can.
She prayed.
She prayed for someone or something to come up and save them.
Thankfully her prayers were answered.
"You're gonna make it…that's the hard part.", she heard Maggie tell Sasha.
That was what Beth was mostly afraid of before.
Having to watch another burial and having to say goodbye to someone she loved and care about.
That was why she wanted to end her life then. But then she realized "When you care about people, hurt is kinda part of the package."
She must continue living. For herself, for the ones she loves and the ones she lost.
She must go on.
"You're gonna make it...the both of us…", Beth knew Maggie was talking about her and Sasha. But Beth felt as if she was talking about her too.
Can she make it? Will she?
She felt a pull on her chest as if something trying to drag her back.
To what exactly, she doesn't know.
Her vision is blurring, so was her sense of hearing.
She can barely make out what the strange man was saying.
Try as she might to stay, she can't. She knows it's time to go. She just hope that her family will be safe. She hope that she'll somehow see them again.
The last thing she remembers before the darkness completely consumed her was the sound of the music box playing.
And then she woke up.
Thanks for reading!
P.S.
I'm sorry but I'm not planning on continuing this story. Hope you'd still like it.
