Julia

In the musty darkened bar
A young woman sat alone
A soldier boy had stolen her heart
As she played his keen eyes shone

He'd left with the troops in the morning
With a smile and a quick goodbye
As she sat there quietly mourning
She dreamed of his glowing eyes

So gentle they were as they looked upon
Her emotional performance
Full of memories yet to come
And silly boyish ignorance

She lifted up the piano lid
Her voice wafting to the rafters
She sang of a love forbid
And the wanting ever after

After she had sung her lament
She broke down into tears
Then a man entered; a heavensent
Drawn by a lovely sound to his ears

He comforted her and they talked awhile
Of loves lost and happier times
He told some jokes, and made her smile
If Laguna was gone, was this general- a sign?

Her life moved on before her eyes
Of a wife and a mother divine
But the day Laguna said goodbye
Was the last day of roses and wine.
